thats retarded...i would pay 30 grand tops...i mean it doesnt even talk...you'd think that in 2007 the car would at least talk...it doesnt even have nitrous....hell for 140 grand i want it to talk (thats easy...my alarm clock talks) i want it to have nitrous with a turbo boost button ( whats so hard about that) a supercharger (thats a gimmee) and bulletproof (again...not hard for a professional) the way they make that car sound its just a stock car with a few glowy buttons for 140 grand
Well, I guess it can not be any better or worse than owning the original Batmobile, the A-Team van, Strarsky & Hutch's Torrino, Nash Bridge's Cuda vert, or the most famous (arguably) car of all..the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee...it is amazing what a collector will pay for Hollywood props.

i read that the original batmobile did have a supercharger for collectors...and it IS the batmobile...the torrino and the cuda are classics anyway and the general is the general......all those (except for B.A's van) are cool....this is just a stock 1982 pontiac with a few stupid non working glowys stuck on it for 140 grand...i have a ricer buddy with the same thing on his civic that he bought for 100 bucks....for 140 grand i want "the hoff" to come clean my house for a year and sing his european songs on my boss's grass every morning

So very true. However, assuming it is an authentic Knight Rider Trans Am, the very fact it is a Hollywood star (or more likely a prop), it becomes valuable. If you look at some of the Chrisitie's auctions, clothing form a movie goes for $34,000. A musical instrument form a movie can bring in $100,000. Needless to say, if it is an authentic prop from the show, it is likely the seller will get what he asks for.
I remember that some of the stunt cars for Nash Bridges (cars that were wrecked and were clones) were going for $100,000. Several of the stunt General Lees went for $50K-$100K. There are way too many movie buffs out there to pass up on getting thier hands on a real movie prop.
I grant,I am not one of those movie buffs, so the car does not interest me in the slightest, but there are many fools out there willing to be parted from their money, just to own a piece of Hollywood.
And I think the original cuda from Nash Bridges was on Bar. Jackson last year the car only had a 318 in it. I forgot the price but I remember Don Johnson was there doing what he could to get the price higher.

Get a patent on that, you never know. That and sequential tail lights looking good.

There's a guy that shows up at some local car shows here with a Knight Rider clone he built. He bought the firebird new in 82 or so and over the years has upgraded it to look very close to the TV car. Interior and exterior. The interior is very well done -- right down to the aircraft style steering wheel and all the dash lights and switches. But he's nowhere near 150K into it I guarantee you.
I guess this is cool, if you grew up with the show. I was already in High School and old enough to see the fake-ness of the show when it was on, so KITT was more an object of ridicule than coolness among me and my friends.

Never really watched the show or cared for that model Trans-Am, for that matter. Do you suppose someone would actually give $150K for it?
Boggles the mind.
I freaking Love Knight Rider. THe reason its so expensive is because IT IS KITT and its Documented.
Sure they could add nitrous to it, change the voice box to actually work, and so forth.... but then it wouldn't be the original KITT.
Its a collectors item, not a daily driver or a race car.
That is exactly my point...assuming it is real, it is a Hollywood icon...not a clone or even a stunt car. Oh yes, there is someone willing to pay that amount for it.
Just look at what collectors are willing to pay for items not yet a collectors item:
The first 2007 Shelby GT500 went for $625K
The first Chevy SSR went for $143K
Any Shelby GT500 going for $20k+ over MSRP
Any Shelby GT going for $10K+ over MSRP
The new Camaro and Challenger expected to do the same for the first 2 years.
Remember, Hollywood props are valuable...i.e. Judy Garlin's dress in Wizard of Oz went for $34K
Celebrities often sell clothing they have worn once (for an improtant event) for thousand's of dollars.
Perhaps the Knight Rider should return - this time driving a black Mustang with a talking KB supercharger.
I 2nd that !
