Default Saw a car with 32" wheels today - uggh

I saw a guy today at lunch who had 32" rims on a caprice. I walked up and asked him about the car. I wanted to know what modifications he had made to the brakes. None (horror). The gearing? None.

So then I asked him how it changed the way the car drives. He told me it takes forver to get up to 60 but that at least he looks cool doing it. I kept a straight face.

I asked him if he has had to make a hard stop yet at freeway speed. Not yet, he told me.

Can you imagine how easily stock brakes could fail on an old caprice, rolling on 32" wheels, doing 80 on the freeway and hitting the brakes hard?

That is some scary stuff. The people doing this to cars are functionally destroying the vehicle, to the point of it being a hazard to all on the road. Why isn't this illegal? Somtimes I wonder how the human race survives...

Reminds me of a story my brother told me about a case in court he saw (he's a cop). A Civic driving ricer was in court one day for having clear brake lights, so the judge asks him "why did you put these on your car?" The guys response to the judge, "I thought it was cool!". The whole court room busted out laughing!!!

I just saw an older Impala the other day with those same huge wheels. Looked absolutely ridiculous.

Seriously 32"... I didn't even know that they made them that big yet. I thought they were just up to 26".... not my thing so I don't follow them much.

I just saw on Ebay that they are selling lift kits for these things. I assumed that you had to do somethign to get them to fit, but yes... lift kits for 32" rims.

Sad part is looking at the pictures, the cars they had them on honestly the bottom of the door set up higher that the Bronco II I had with 33"X12" Tires and a 6" Suspension lift.

This is one thing I don't understand. $500 car with $5000 Rims and $5000 stereo.

The 32" wheels I bet costed more then the whole car... And I'm wondering that too, how do those things stop when they still have the stock brakes on?

When your rims cost more than your car, you may want to rethink your priorities.

32" wheels, with 8" drum brakes. Hehe

Next they will be selling steps you can mount on the car so you can step up into them.

20's on your car? Yeah, if you suspension is up to the task, and you own a PERFORMANCE CAR, and you like that look, and you want the smooth surface steering response, sure. On a truck? Why? I want plenty of sidewall on a truck, which goes off road, and hauls loads over rough terrain.

But on a sedan? That is simply insane. You are giving up all of your ride quality, acceleration, braking, and your roll hazard is off the charts.

I am personally sick of the "pimp look", and hope it goes away soon.

The one I am really sick of is the chrysler 300. 99% of them have huge pimp wheels, and it is SOOOO boring, and common. I see one every few minutes on the road. Many people are total sheep, that simply do whatever others are doing. Getting hammered over every bump is fine, so long as you look like a ghetto superstar.

Like I've said before... if you're running wheels that big then toss the engine, strap some horses to the front and ride on the hood. At this point it looks more natural riding in ruts in the Southwest than it does on a blvd.

To each their own I guess but... geez!

Let me answer that for you: "Very Slowly"!!! Leaving the stock brakes on 32" rims is not only unsafe but also uncool. Killing someone because you can't stop is not worth it. Seriously, what are those people thinking???

how cool is it to have a beat up old car with nice wheels? Wouldn't it be better to have a nice car with ok rims?
