BTW, I think a big hood smiley face would go good on the hood of the Geo. and a new plate frame stating "MY OTHER CAR IS A STANG"

A little for both of you!!

Let's see, my previous "daily-driven" Mustang (1987 GT Convertible) had the following happen to it:

1. Backed into in a Whataburger parking lot while I was eating lunch, doing $2200 in damage and, at least financially, totalling it.

2. Had a St. Bernard jump out of the pickup in front of it on the interstate, doing over $1000 in damage, insurance only paid $200 attributing the other problems as "typical of a Mustang that age".

3. Was hit in the Walmart parking lot by two little brats racing shopping carts. This was parked in the second to last spot in the row furthest from the door, across two spots, with NOBODY parked near it!

4. Had the reliability of a Yugo.

My current Mustang is 33 years old, has no power steering, no power brakes, and no A/C. I love the damn thing to death and drive it whenever I have the chance, but I wouldn't want to depend on it to get me back and forth to work everyday, and I love the modern conveniences in my daily driver.

Not all of us drive late-model Mustangs, making something else more practical as a daily driver. For me it came down to a pickup or an SUV for overall practicality because I needed something I could drive daily, could tow my race car, could haul firewood, lumber, and a bunch of tools in on any given day, and had enough ground clearance to go to my favorite outdoor spots. I couldn't drive a Mustang to my favorite fishing hole, my favorite camping spot, or even to my favorite junkyard to go parts hunting for either of my classic rides, it just wouldn't survive the trip.

I'll put it this way, last time a Mustang was my "daily driver" I actually drove this old heap more often than I drove the 'stang. I bought that '87 vert to drive daily to retire that poor truck for a much needed frame-off resto, which never even got started on, but I think in the 2 years I owned that car the truck saw more road time... don't laugh too loud though, it killed that car in a heads-up race.

Here's my other two cars in the attached pic.

The 1997 Toyota Camry LE is my everyday driver now. I drive at least 60 miles a day and this car is perfect. It currently has 114k on it and is the 4 cyl ( 2.2 ). The car is covered in salt and sand in this pic from the roads here in the Northeast. This car is great in the snow too with the tires I have on it. The climate is another reason why some of us have everyday "beaters". I plan to drive this car into the ground.

The 1987 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 9 passenger wagon in the background is my retired everyday driver. It is my spare vehicle now and doubles as my "truck" when I need to haul something. It has the factory Oldsmobile 307 in it and has 170k on the odo. The motor is tired and uses oil but the car still runs good and is dependable. It has never let me down. Too many full size wagons have been demo'd and crushed and I refuse to let this one go that route. In addition to the work I'm doing on my 1968 Mustang I'm doing a partial restoration (refreshing) on this car. I now store this vehicle during the winter along with the Mustang and just use it during the summer now. I currently have a replacement 307 I'm working on plus I'm replacing and fixing other things that have gone wrong or broke on a 20 year old vehicle. It is currently eligable for antique plates here in CT and in another 5 years will be emmisions exempt!

The best thing about these cars, including my Mustang? They are all paid for! I will never buy a new car. I don't feel it's worth it and prefer to get something that's 3-4 years old and possibly off-lease. The Camry was an off-lease vehicle and the Caprice was an ex-company fleet vehicle.
