Y'know, all these congrats, but I don't think anyone addressed your original questions about the CD changer. I believe they also had a CD player (1 at a time) that was offered.

It should be possible to decode the VIN or Door plate, assuming you don't have a copy of the original sticker. There are companies that do this for a small fee on line.

Another thing you can do is find the OE changer/reciever in a junk yard (they are generic from 2000 - 2004, I believe) and plug her in - all the wiring harnesses had the necessary power supply and antenna leads. (Speakers varied depending on the trim level and options (Mach or not).

The OE receiver is an "OK" unit, but not known as a great piece of audiophile equipment. Since the changers were available as dealer-installed items also, I can see nothing wrong with you adding it.

I too vote to keep the Bullit original. If you must modify something, buy an old clapped out GT to play with. The numbers of unmolested and intact Bullits is dropping daily (and was never a huge number to start with).

In another ten years, about 80% of the original productions of Bullits will be trashed or modded to death.

THEN try to find one with low miles in pristine, unmolested condition for cheap money!

I know the best way to find out is do it but I just figued I'd ask. I'm paying $13k out the door which is about $12k before tax, title, license, so I think its a pretty good deal. I'm gonna try ro sell my 97 GT for $7500 and refinance the Bullit loan. I've been on the Bullitt archive site and checked most everything and it is a real Bullitt. The only thing that bothers me is the door tag doesn't list an interior trim code at all. It should say KW, the K for Bullitt, and W for charcoal leather. It has the number on the shock tower which is 0143 I believe. I'm not sure if I want to mod the heck out of it or leave it alone.

Wise.

I have even seen people who are "parting out" perfectly good Bullits, swapping in either a GT intake rig or a supercharger, and selling the nice Bullit intake (these things bring good money).

Its sad. Sort of like killing a rhino to clip off its horn to make a knife blade for some Yemeni tribesman!

I think the mods I listed, CAI, an off road X, shifter, and a tuner could be taken back to stock pretty easy. Even if I did gears, would it hurt the value that much? I'm taking it to the 1/8 mile track on June 1st to see what its got. It feels a lot faster than my GT but I'm not so sure it has more than my 89. It will burn the tires pretty good between 1st and 2nd! I need to go through all my old stang mags and find some ideas for what brands of CAI to get. I thought about buying the proper stereo off ebay, but the Alpine is sounding pretty good.

Maybe get one, and stash it away with your other stock parts.

Quite frankly the stereo is the one thing I have seriously wrestled with changing. The stereo in my BULLITT is not MACH and really is pathetic. However, I love the sound of the exhaust so much that the stereo just does not matter to me that much at this point. I have decided that the only stereo swap I would do is to swap in a MACH that would have been available in my car. I have been led to believe that it would be a very difficult swap though... Ergo, I will just be happy to drive my BULLITT and when the stereo quality bugs me, I will turn it off and roll down the windows for a while and listen to the only stereo that matters in that car...
