That's one brave dog. This has come up before in other threads and my opinion was voiced then but I'll voice it again. These dogs have no place in society. They are a menace to everyone involveed and they should ALL be destroyed. The thing that really gets me is what the owners of the pitbulls had to say: "Gay said the pitbulls' owner had surrendered the pair to dog control officers, and demanded they be destroyed, claiming they had launched unprovoked attacks previously"
If they have attacked before and the owners knew this, they should be held accountable as well.
Jack Russell terriers are Rottweilers in a teeny dog body! My niece has one and BOY is she tough and she is only 4 months old!
I have known people with Pitbulls that are the stupidest silliest happiest dogs you would want to know, and they would lick you to death, but then again there are those that are just SO inbred that their instincts to attack just cant be stopped. In fact my husbands aunt was attacked by 2 Pits about 2 years ago when she attempted to stop them from attacking her puppy. She was just walking by their house and they went right thru the fence.
I think there are no bad dogs, but bad dog owners. Some breeds are just not meant for certain people.
Sorry to hear that they had to put the JR down. Both the attacking dogs should be put down as well. NO trusting them now.

I have one named Eddie. He is a GREAT dog, and when walking him he will always get between me and other dogs 10X his size. He is FAST too. He is a great little dog, and he is protective of the children. Will not let strangers near them. He is not afraid of anything. Poor George.

His owner said he had a 'bad heart condition.' Well, the little fellah may have had a 'bad heart' but there was certainly plenty of it!
The pit bulls hurt him - but it took the vet to put him down. If he'd been a young dog, he'd probably have made it.
As for the aggressive pit bulls, if you have to have one, make it ONLY one! The pack instinct and interaction between more than one dog has a lot to do with this hunt/attack behavior. Territoriality is also greatly augmented with multiple dogs forming a pack.
"Conditioning" dogs to attack humans is something best left to experts in the military and law enforcement. I would suggest that anyone seeking to explore new laws look at the idea of making the CREATION of dangerous dogs a crime, rather than just look at penalties which arrive after the fact.
If a gun analogy is needed, its the difference between purchasing a semi-automatic rifle - and converting it to a fully automatic machine gun. There's a line that can be drawn between the two practices, and it should be.

George was no puppy, in human years he was a 63 year old.
lol, George was a puppy.. almost every dog I speak of is a puppy to me, dunno why. mine is older than my brother (almost 13 human years).. and shes still my puppy.
Don't fall for all the pitbull media hype. I agree that there are bad, negligent owners out there who think it's cool to have vicious pitbulls, but they're not treating their dogs right. I have four pitbulls (rescued them all from death) and they all are fully trained and live together very peacefully. As well, they love their doggie neighbor friends.
The "Drive-by Media" loves to call ALL dogs who attack "pitbulls." Look further into these stories and you will no doubt find that the canine offender was abused, neglected, raised to fight or, quite often, not a pitbull at all.
Look for the truth. Judge the breed, not the deed.

No matter how old my dogs get, I still call them "the puppies".
