Jen and I would love to bring the kids out... Would make a week of it. Show the kids the sights on the way in and out. Figure 3 days driving each way more or less.

I agree with triple in that there is not much to look at in south Georgia except the Okefenokee.....but, if you are coming in from South Alabama or the Fla panhandle, there is a neat geological feature just south of Columbus called Providence Canyon State Park. I wouldnt make a day of it, but if you are driving by it would be worth the stop.
Hey 3B, when are you planning this? I would be in for it. That's why I moved down this way.....
I could meet up with Kyle and those guys from Knoxville and we could cruise from there.
Its looking like it would be late June or Mid-July right now, but I'm still getting input from the troops.
I have an update on the cost of Attractions tickets: We can probably get a group rate that will be a lot cheaper. All Attractions $19 for adults and $15 for children. I've got the form, and as soon as we get dates, I'll be asking how many tickets we'll all be needing. (Tickets are NOT required for admittance to the park and the Laser Show. Its $8 per vehicle to get in the park, and the Laser Show is free. But the skyshuttles to the top of the Mountain - the choo-choo - the Steamboat Cruise - and the many other venues and museums and such DO cost extra, hence the tickets).
The suggestion has been made that we include a local car show in our plans, so I'll list those in the Atlanta area as soon as I can draw up a list. For those coming in earlier in the week, there are a number of Friday night cruizes around that might be of interest, and I'll list those as well.
Everyone keep checking back on this thread for updated information and to post questions, ideas, and suggestions!

I am just awaiting a date to be set so I can see if I will bring my wife or if I should just get a buddy to come along with me.
Kyle,
since you are just over the mountain from me...we could arrange a route for people coming from this area to meet in East TN, ride the Dragon, then south on 28 through Franklin to 441 South. That would take you all the way down into GA, hit I 85 into Atlanta. That would be a beautiful drive....just a thought.
I'm in, as long as the date works with my busy schedule! LOL! I'd love to spend some time down South. Because of the drive, I'll be staying for a few days, for sure, at a hotel. There's a lot to see in that area!
I'll be coming down from Upstate NY, so anyone that wants to meet up somewhere, let me know. I'd like to take the Mustang, but if my wife drives in her Lincoln Town Car, we can get there about a day sooner. You have no idea how that car eats up the miles with her driving. Let's say she has a lead foot!

OK, that's a vote for July 21.
It gets hotter around here in late July... Otherwise, that's the only downside I can see.
This is good enough, though, for me - I was ready to go with June 23, but July 21 is just fine with me.
A further review of the healing time my wife will need for the bunion surgery leads me to change to July 21. Sorry for teasing anyone with the June 23 date! My bad.

July 21st is good for me. Sign me up. I won't need any housing as I am bringing my camper and will camp. Can I go ahead and reserve those dates at Stone Mountain then? Is this set in concrete?

It is concrete. I'll be there come hell or high water (which would be the end of the earth, probably, since its about 2000 feet above sea level and a local high point).
I need to know who wants to chip in for the bbq feast (it won't be that much, and I'll let everyone know the exact amount per person, but I realize that not EVERYONE eats BBQ). I'll front the money and buy the food, transport it in, and get it hot (I'll also have some burger and hot dog makings, just for snacks and backup). Drinks will be part of the equation, too.
Several folks are planning runs through the mountains, so I invite those interested to post their intentions and discuss their plans. There are central meet points where good jump-off runs can be planned on the various routes.
I'll be posting lists and links and such as soon as I get them organized. I'd appreciate those who are serious about coming PM'ing me with their contact info (particularly cell #'s and such that will be accessible on the road) so that I can act as the central contact for people who might run into trouble on the road, delays or (like BullRun) get lost.
Its happenin', guys!
