Default Ford Ranger SVT Cobras?!?

Im moving to kentucky soon, and I just talked to my dad(ford entusiast), and he has a sweet deal for me!!!!!!!!


My dad has a 02? ranger, and a wrecked 02 SVT Cobra.

He really don't know how to do swaps, but he has the ranger(his DD for now, hes about to buy a new truck, but it depends on me)

He just bought a wrecked SVT Cobra, and he told me if I can swap the motor + tranny(has a 6 speed in the cobra) then I can have it for free.(as long as he can take it to the track)

I can use his tools, and if I need to purchase anything, he will.

So, this is a deal of a lifetime!

I need to know if I got to change wireing harnesses? Can Ford reprogram the ranger comp for the cobra motor, or should I just replce the ECU. If I replace, do the harnesses match?

I need all he info I can find out.

Hehehehe I can see it now

Ranger, Black, "SVT Black", 2 silver strips, SVT and cobra badges instead of ranger, fog lights, body kit, SC screaming, exhaust.

I can taste it :P

Ill have a truck(iv always wanted a truck) with a cobra personality.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I have seen V8`s in rangers before at the car shows . Maybe find a ranger board and ask for info . I will say you will have to use the cobra computer for sure . Is the ranger 2x4 or 4x4 ?

will you be parting out the rest of the cobra ??

SVT built one 3 years ago or so as a proof of concept, after they decided to kill the Lightning.

you're gonna need all the computer, wiring, and fuses your can get off the Cobra. Everything. You're also going to need to find an 8.8 rear (I think it was off an explorer).

the tranny mount will have to be fabbed, but Ford Racing may have teh parts you need. I'd look there first.

iv been looking around. money is no object(dad runs own successful company), and he told me when i turn 21, he would have a deal for me.

i cant wait to actually get started on it.

It will be a prject of a lifetime.

I don't think the rear was from an Explorer, they're Independent front and rear.

8.8's are around $250.00 here. Is it an extended cab? We would need the k-member too. The wheels are turning now TH3.....

Yeah, we could make it work..... A couple mods to the flooring to accomodate the tranny, measure up the driveshaft, We may even need the front suspension if it still exists. What was wrecked on the Cobra?

The problem is the width of the motor. The OHC Ford motors are huge compared to a small block and even a big block swap would be much easier, but with a good budget and better than average fabrication skills it is doable.

You'll need the complete Cobra wiring harness and ECM.

All late model Rangers have 28 spline 8.8 rears with some getting 31 spline axles, but they are very rare.

An Explorer 31 spline 8.8 is a bolt in project.

The transmission is easy. The stock crossmember is moved back about 4 inches and a spacer on the mount.

The firewall will need extensive work and you'll need custom made headers.

Cooling will be another challenge.

03 cobra radiator shouldn't be too hard to make fit.

I think you even need the Cobra's gauges for it to work right. I guess they report back to the 'puter? I read this in an article in a Stang mag, where they put an '03-'04 Cobra motor in a foureyed Fox Stang.

The rear end is totaled.

The motor tranny only say 12k miles. It was a old couples "fun" car is how they said it. A drunk driver hit em and totaled the car. He fled the scene and wasn't found. Whats funny is the old man got the 6-speed put in because he likes standards. he told my dad that he has never driven a automatic.

A few of us guys down here might be going in together for a building. It used to be an old Ford dealership with room for about 50 cars inside. We were joking around about it today saying that would all need to buy go-carts to race around inside in our spare time.
