do not pull a boat that large with a stang... in severe braking conditions, the tow vehicle needs a lot more wt than the boat. i saw a guy picking up pieces of his scarab boat in ft worth after towing it with an s-10. he hit the brakes and tried to change lanes; the boat jackknifed into his s-10 totalling his whole set up....

I guess I'd sell the wife's car, and put her in a truck.
Not kidding. I'd do it.
Then, after proposing the situation to the spousal unit, and finding my testiculars in the garbage can, I guess I'd sell the 5.0 and find a real nice F150 like I had, and deck that baby out.
I'd also be getting a pontoon party barge type boat, I love them!!
Nothing like a crawfish boil in the middle of the Atchafalaya basin!
Heck, you can take them out on Lake Pontchartrain on a calm morning!
Fresh boiled crabs!!

I'm a boater as well, and actually sold the boat with plans to focus on being a car nut with the purchase in 2002 of my GT. It didn't stick, the draw of the water was too strong, and I eventually got another boat. fortunetly, I can now afford both, (thus the 2005 GT) and my advice is to see if you can either borrow a tow vehicle, or even rent a slip for the boat, so you can keep the 5.0
Good luck!

The least expensive slip we could find in this area was going to be over $250 per month - and they went up from there. That's nearly a car payment (or, in the case of the more expensive slips, more than a car payment)! In fact, that's the biggest reason we got rid of our pontoon boat - launching and loading became a pain in the a$$ (but we were new to the whole thing - sounds like Kyle has more experience with it) and a slip was going to cost more than the boat insurance, licenses, etc. Well, that and the fact that it rained every single time we wanted to take the boat out. The boat, itself, was paid for but we weren't getting to use it enough to justify that kind of monthly payment to rent a tiny spot of water. It was fun while we had it, though, and I did find out (strangely enough) that I catch more fish from the bank than I can from a boat (again, I guess it is a matter of experience - fishing was the main reason I wanted the boat in the first place.)
I'm with you on that slip rent being so much, Lake Mead slips are outragous, and my present boat (23' Sea Ray) was, you guessed it, $250/month. and hauling/launching is a HUGE p.i.t.a. so I'm moving the boat out to the Pacific Coast later this year, there's a facility that will dry store the boat on it's trailer, sling launch and recover, all for $105/month. a bargain in my book.
Here's a pic of what a GT would look like as a tow vehicle!

Well currently, slips at the Marina that I hang out at is about $120/month. Though, there is new ownership so I know they are going to go up soon.
My buddy does own a House Boat that he stays on during the week (he transfered in with the new bulding for our company and his house is about an hour away, so instead of selling and buying a new house he just uses his boat as an apartment during the week) and we can dock to it on his floating dock for free. Then only have to deal with transporting it at the beginning, end of the season and if we ever want to put in south of the Norris Dam. Even then I know 3 or 4 guys that live on boats at the marina and one of them would always be there to help me get the boat on and off the trailor even if the wife can't go up there with me.
If we have a boat, we need to be able to move it IMO. I agree with JB that even a 4.0L 4WD Ranger or a 4.3L 4X4 S-10 would probably take care of what I need to do. Although, I would prefer to have a full size truck. Even better would be to have an Older Bronco.
As far as the wife driving the truck.. ain;t going to happen. She is going to have to drive 300 miles a week minimum for work and want somethign good on gas and newer. I don't want to make the payments to have a new 4X4 truck.
I am sure all this will work its self out soon.

well you said yourself that the 5.0 isnt in THAT nice of a condition. what exactly do you want from it? do you want the satisfaction of restoring the car, or do you want a nice 5.0 convertable?
if you just want a nice 5.0 convert, sell yours now. i see tons of 5.0 convertables in the paper.
Can't advise you either way on towing with a 5.0 but if it were me, I wouldn't do it. I've seen the boat ramps here in east Tn., good luck with traction. My '01 F-150 Supercrew 4wd has traction issues with my dads 21 foot stratos bassboat I can't imagine a car that is already traction "challenged", pulling a 2500lb boat up a wet ramp. Maybe put a winch on the front of the mustang that way when it all ends up in the lake, we have something to hook to to get you back out.
On a side note Kyle, I have plenty of property you can store your boat and trailer on for free if you want.
Obamacare my a$$ We are all going to pay for electing this tool.
Remember, it is almost impossible for anyone, myself included, to diagnose a problem over the internet without seeing the car. My advice is simply that, advice based on years of experience. I don't want you or anyone taking my word as gospel. I am trying to give some direction as to what I think may be happening.
Well it sold tonight for asking Price. Nice young Blonde gal bought it (about 19) she should enjoy it a lot.
you will see it in a ditch or something,
as beign a past boater for a long time, i would just suggest a f150, or even a ranger, but i wouldnt tow anything more than 3000lbs with a reanger bc the brakes arnt very big, but still i would get one that has 4wd, so you have a 4wd low range for getting up the boat ramp, me myslefy have never had any issues with slipping on the wet boat ramp, a trailer has to have 10% of tounge weight so that weight will help keep the tires from spinning
as far a a boat and morage, dont get morage, unless you are going to use it ALOT, it would be better off towing it, are you looking ofr a cuddy or and open bow, sea rays 18&19ft boat are built very well, they ussually come with a 4.3 210hp or a 5.0 230hp, the 4.3 v-6's are good motors, extremly exconomical, my budy had a 21ft bayliner cuddy and did 45mph with 6 people on board, and have an amazing hull shot for skiing or tubbing, just shop around and find a good boat ie sea ray, bayliner, fourwinds, even a cobalt, make sure its been properly maintaiend and winterized every year, those small blocks can crack very easy, regualr tune ups, just like on the stangs, good luck and happy boating
