Mustang Bullitt will debut in Los Angeles

While perusing the Ford media website today, we were greeted with the image you see above and Ford's first official acknowledgment that the much anticipated Mustang Bullitt will debut at the L.A. Auto Show in mid-November. Of course, we already know a lot about the Mustang Bullitt thanks to specs that were leaked earlier this month. We also know in general how the car will look, including its famous Highland Green paint and completely blank grille. Ford says in its little blurb (read it after the jump) that the car has the "perfect balance of power, performance and a look of quiet intensity."
Despite all the iterations of the Mustang that we've been forced to stomach from Ford and numerous other companies, this is the one we've been waiting for. It's good to know we won't have to wait much longer. After debuting in a couple of weeks, the Mustang Bullitt will officially go on sale early next year, according to Ford.
more info:
The crew over at the MustangBlog procured a copy of the 2008 Mustang Ordering Guide and after combing through the corporate doc they came across all the details of the beloved Bullitt Mustang.
On the outside, color choices will be appropriately limited to Highland Green and Black, while 18-inch Charcoal Satin Finish Euro-Flange rollers frame dark grey brake calipers holding on to Performance-grade Carbon Metallic pads up front. The 'Stang is dropped by Ford's Sport Tuned suspension kit that includes new shocks, springs and a stabilizer bar, while a Bullitt emblem faux filler cap, a spoiler delete and a new upper grille, sans Pony badge and fog lamps, completes the exterior adornments.
Performance-wise, the Bullitt gets the Ford Racing Power Pack, although we're not sure if it's just limited to the cold-air intake system or if it's the full monty, including new mass air meter, Ford Racing oil filter and new mufflers. The Bullitt will come equipped with a reflashed ECU, so we'd guess it's a bit more than just an intake, especially considering that the exhaust comes with 3.5-inch tips. A Ford Racing strut tower brace emblazoned with a serialized label stretches across the engine bay, while out back a 3.73:1 LSD makes sure the extra ponies make it to the ground. Ford decided to nix the space-saver spare in favor of a tire inflation kit, presumably to save weight.
Inside, a black interior with the Sport Leather Seat Appearance package accompanies aluminum accents in the form of a ball shifter, sill plates and pedal covers, while a custom steering wheel is fitted in place of the stock unit.
Now, if we can just get Dodge to release a comparably equipped Charger, we're going to set the team of Neff and Nunez loose on the streets of S.F.
I bet out here in Cali. (definitely in Los Angeles and in San Francisco), we see them on the roads. I have seen all the other ones out here on the roads (Saleen, Slaeen Extreme, Roush, Roush 427, Parnelli Jones, Shelby Gt, Hertz GT, and Shelby GT500), so I expect to see the Bullit too.
It will be a collectible car. I doubt anyone will ever see one of them on the roads.
You will see a few here in Phoenix. Hopefully I can convince the wife that my 01 BULLITT is lonely and that we need to get it a friend...
I love mine. It is a real beauty and a pleasure to drive. When Jenny and I had dinner with Whiteangel and her husband, they were at the resteraunt waiting outside for us. The first thing her husband said when we got out was, "Boy that thing sure does sound good"
To those in the know they are really something special. To everyone else, it is just a plain jane version of the regular GT, or to some it is a V6 since there is no spoiler or fogs... I have had that argument more than once believe it or not... Apparently Civic guys think you have to have a spoiler to be a V8. SEE MY THREAD REGARDING THIS HERE: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...llitt-its.html
Anyway, the fact that most people really don't know what it is makes it that much more special to me.

I think Ford is making another mistake though. The last bullit was nice, but didn't have enough to set it apart from a regular GT (imo). This one looks to be the same way. I'd like to see Ford really take off and do something spectacular, not this "retuned PCM" and "Cold Air Induction" to specialize a bullit.

I tend to agree with you there... If they don't spice up the performance a bit more than it just becomes a name with a body kit. I was hoping for a little more of a gain than it looks like they will give it.
Don't be fooled though, my BULLITT will walk a GT of the same year without much trouble. The intake and exhaust on it give a very flat torque curve, with the majority of the power comming in at 1800rpm instead of around 3000 like the regular GT. The 0-60 is a bit better, and according to the Car and Driver article where they put it against the N/A cobra of that year, the BULLITT was quicker in the quarter than the cobra. I would guess that is partially due to the live rear axle launching better, but that torque, even though just marginally better than a GT, does hit you sooner. I would also not trade my brakes for anything. I always found the brakes on my other Mustangs to be a bit on the lethargic side. This baby will stop on a dime though with the BREMBOS.
I think the brakes and suspension should have been what all mustangs of the era had. They really really improve the car IMHO.

See that's the thing, Ford mixed and matched parts to create the car. The bullit springs are FRPP C spring knockoffs, and 03/04 mach 1 struts/shocks. The brakes are cobra brakes with a bullit emblem on them. While these are all improvements for sure, it's nothing spectacular. Since it's a special edition, I would have hoped it would be "special" and to me it really wasn't. Don't get me wrong, I do like those cars (especially the sleek look and the handling), but I feel Ford should go out and set it apart from a GT.
I think that is why Ford is slipping badly, they won't grow balls and make something that the customer will REALLY desire. They are playing it safe, and not investing money into R&D.
That is true. I was kind of disappointed at the performance thing. But to some guys, it doesn't matter. I can't wait to see it, but that's it. I was at least hoping for a different hood or something. With the next redesign looking more like the 68 and 69's.... I see them doing this car again.

I think Wondi has a point though... If they don't do more than pretty paint and interior, there will not be much demand for future models. They were kind of forced into the TERMINATORS since they had class actions going against them for the COBRAS not living up to the promise... They really went all out, and made something that is truly desirable. Some would argue, the best mustang to date in fact. And from what I saw they had no trouble selling them.
If they truly set this model apart, people would be chomping at the bit for the next incarnation of them. Think of how many of us would like a next gen COBRA right now... and then look at the fact that as far as I know, we will be waiting a long long time.
Ford needs to quit telling us what we want. We want something different. The first gen Taurus was an instant hit because it was different. It was not a stale knock off of a Camry. It was the number one selling car in america for about 3 years. It was edgy in its day, and people loved it. The COBRA became a huge hit because it was truly BANG FOR THE BUCK, and different from anything else at the time. The GT500 would fit the bill except for the fact that you need to be Bill Gates to own one because of the ridiculously insanely high dealer markup that puts you into Vette and Viper territory...
