Well 02 Vert, there is one point that you made which is 100% wrong.
"Your Competition" the Mustang is a legend in many more ways then just horsepower, it has no competition. I could elaborate, however the fact that you bought a Firehawk tells me that you wouldn't understand if I tried. There is a reason why there a so many Mustangs still on the road
Well....I don't know where you live but I race anything and everything. Maybe its because I don't think I can lose, but also its for the fun of it. Do you think its just the area of where you live?
I live in San Diego, and I have no problem finding someone to race. Aslo, I found that some people won't race on the streets.
I'm sorry but the heritage BS doesn't cut it. Firebird/Camaro was only 2.5 year later in intro and the 60's cars are so far removed from the cars we have now that they only share name and basic configuation style with the original cars.
Our 'cher in the sticks (Memphis) we buy lots of pick-ups or Caprice ghetto rides. Not many muscle cars. So far, only a Z28 has wanted to race me but traffic wouldn't allow.
3 Mustangs have rev'd their engines at me and then they turn. What up with that maneuver?
That heritage is not BS, if not for the Mustang, the GM twins would not be here either.
I can't and won't race anyone on the street, thats my excuse, but at the track, I'll go up against a 9 sec car, just to race. What I think is funny is when some rice burner or maro, or stang revs at you at a stop light, but he's in the turning lane, WTF is up with that?
I have nothing but respect for the LS1 but at the same time I have no fear of them. Maybe I'll loose. Doesn't matter. I will admit it would be nice for Ford to step it up a little. But I'll still be able to buy a Mustang (new) in a couple years if I choose instead of searching used car lots.
touche' Low et gt. I think it absolutely sucks that GM can't/won't market their pony cars. I hope people buy the @#$& out of Stangs after F-bodies die. Maybe then GM will realize their error. In the meantime, hopefully tuners like SLP will begin working with Ford on the 4.6L to make it a real contender.
*shrug* I don't know man. Maybe they'll step up the power but my fear is that it will stay the same because no other like classed car to compete with. Must I resort to stoplight confrontations with Unlce Ben? Hopefully not. Hey I know, add some testicular fortitude to the cobra and let it run with the vette.................
Personally myself if I had 30 grand just laying around I'd buy an SS and just put it in a bag and store for around 20 years (after I played a little of course) liek one of those people I despise. I'd stay true to the Blue Oval of course but looking at it as more of an investment LOL
If you took the difference in sticker price and applied that to mods on the 'stang you would have a car that would eat the F-bodies alive.... As for why the camaro and firebird are being dropped, they have trouble competing with the 'stang in the market place. Ford sells more 'stangs than camaros, firebirds, and 'vettes combined. As for street racing what do you win a ticket? possible loss of license for 5 years to go with that. To big of a price tag for me.
There is alot of people out there saying that mustangs and firehawks can beat the camaro but there all wrong they cant beat the camaro. I looked in the internet, t.v and magizings,, they all say that the camaro beats the mustangs and the firehawks. Also they say that that Camaro is more like a corvette. So sorry to inform you all about it,,
Well 02, the heritage of the Mustang not even a point you can argue, since it is the strongest brand in american history.
The 60's Mustangs have everything to do with todays cars, since they have been evolution process ever since.
I can't say much about where you live, but come on out to Southern California and you will soon learn few things about Mustangs, they are plenty popular, plenty cheap to build, and plenty fast! What rolls off the assembly line is only the beginning.
Well the Camaro/Firebird are almost the same car, Z28/Formula T/A and the SS/Ram-Air T/A. So the camaro is only faster than the Firebird becuase you hear more about eh maro than the bird. As for being faster than the Mustang, of course it is, for having over an extra liter of displacment it better be. But if you take a 5.0 LX and dump the extra 20-25 grand into it to equal the cost of a brand new SS or Ram-Air T/A, you'll definatly be faster, for how cheap it is to build a 5.0 Mustang to go fast, I wouldn't be surprised if you equaled are exceeded the performance of a Viper; power, braking, handling.
Good responses...I personally think Ford should have stayed with the 5.0L. The 4.6 is nice with the OHC setup but the 5.0's were IMHO better engines, easier and more responsive to mods. You guys got screwed with this change.
gvig1977: I know, Ford is selling like 120K-130K Mustangs a year, while GM is selling something like 50K Camaros and Firebirds combined a year. On the GM twins message boards, the consensus is that GM doesn't spend a dime on marketing for these cars while Ford is doing a much better job on selling Mustangs. Shame on GM.
Alex: Camaros have a weight advantage over Firebirds for some obvious reasons but on the MB's, there is huge controversey about why Firebirds always have better 0-60 & 1/4 times than Camaros in magazines. I was going to buy an SS because I love those hoods but the seats in Camaros are diffferent and totally inferior to the Firebirds.
Moderator guys: Heritage still doesn't do a lot for me even though I used to own a '65 Stang convertible; beautiful work of art car. Also, SS's and T/A's are not that much more expensive, if at all, than a Slobra.
