Imagine that - GM's Mark Reuss expects the Camaro 6 to beat the Ford Mustang. Can he possibly be right in any way? This story says he drove both.
Reuss mentioned that he had driven the new Ford Mustang back to back with the new Camaro. Based on that firsthand experience, Reuss stated that he is “very confident”.
Well I only heard a rumor that the sixth generation Camaro was going to use a lightweight Cadillac rwd chassis such as the ATS, and that it would weigh less than the 2015 Mustang. I think if this turns out to be true, it could be amazing because the 2015 Mustang got heavy. GM really needed to improve the Camaro's weight problem because it is actually an Australian family sedan's chassis underneath that muscle car exterior which is why it rides so comfy but is slower on takeoff. This is why I have always liked the Mustang, Ford wasnt reusing a family sedan platform for it, unlike Dodge (LX Challenger) and GM (Holden Camaro)
The Mustang gained 87 pounds - big deal. The Camaro heffer weighs in at 4374 for 2015! Going to need some serious changes to get down to Mustang weights.
1. The camaro is ugly
2. I am guessing people purchase these cars 80% on looks - This is subjective
3. Most people don't get these cars to within 80-100% of what they are capable in the right hands. So it just gives people things to argue about. - A talented driver will be faster than me in either car. Does not matter which one I am driving.
So lets start the arguing and petty bickering
LOL is the point at which I'm supposed to find something wrong with your post? I agree, though there is a growing crowd that buys purely on engine/speed capabilities.
Looks were part of the reason I bought my mustang but overall I wanted a sports car again. Unfortunately I needed a back seat so that narrowed it down fairly quick. Mustang Camaro or Challenger. Mustang won hands down because I liked the interior and options better. I'm also a horrible driver I have horrid reaction times.
This weight war and who is faster means very little to me. I was a die hard Chevy man my whole life, having owned Chevelles , Camaros, Novas, Chevy II, Impalas, El Caminos, Vetts. You get the picture.
I bought my first 5.0 new in 1989 and never looked back. My 2015 GT is my 7th 5.0 Mustang.
I road tested the new Camaro when they first were released and have driven 3 of them since. I am still certain the 5.0 GT is the best bang for the buck and My Ruby Red GT Premium is the best of the lot.
Period!
Absolutely true, the 2016 Camaro will definitely beat the 2015 5.0...no way they release it later than the Mustang and have it be slower. It's already known to be significantly lighter than before, probably very similar to the Mustang in weight. It'll use the LT engine found in the Stingray.
Make no mistake about it, stock for stock, it will be faster than the 2015 GT (esp with the stock softy IRS).
I don't care, personally.
I used to be a GM Nut-Hugger till they took the bail out money, then proceeded to screw their Retirees, Bondholders, and employees every which way they could. Then through smoke and mirrors claim they paid the 'Taxpayers' back in full. This with former Union Bosses on the Board of Directors........yeah, right.
No Thanks. I'll stick with Ford, at least for the time being. But I am done with GM.
This! I'm in complete agreement.
I won't hold the loss of tax payer money against them......that was the US treasury's fault. They held OUR shares in GM......they chose to sell them at a loss.
But thefact remains ...... if I buy a new GM vehicle some of the money goes to union members and retirees who benefited because bondholders got screwed ....... hey, when this Government used it's power to UPEND the rule of law to reward loyal political support they sealed the deal for me.
You don't screw with 100 years of property rights protection in the courts for political gain and get my business later.
Neither GM or Chrysler will see me purchasing a new car or truck from them again. I don't reward THEFT with my business.
Crossing GM and Chrysler off my list isn't that hard to do today anyway. Lots of other car companies to buy from......many make a car or truck that is as appealing or more so anyway.
Guys, i got some bad news.... According to this youtube video, the camaro is only "less capable" than the mustang in the 1/4 mile... BUT it does NOT cover the cost of the 2015 camaro to the mustang cuz for some reason the chevy is always more $$????
I do not see how that is bad news at all. Cars are getting better and better. This is clearly a golden age for performance cars! AWESOME! This coming from a guy who KNOWS how bad it was for a long time. I owned a 1978 Mustang 2 with a 302 and a 4 speed. I am thrilled to see what cars are now!
Funny story ... When the new current Camero hit the showroom floor my sister loved it so she drove 50 miles to Chevy dealer to test drive one. All well and good except for the fact that my sister is quite claustrophobic. She pulls out of the dealer lot with a loaded V8 Camero drove about 200 yards got extrem claustrophobia and proceeded to vomit all over the dash and the salesmen in the passenger seat! ... Anyway she insisted I buy a Mustang when the time came to buy a GT car. I know this is off the subject but thought I would share.
Competition is always good it keeps the big three car company's on their toe's. In the past I have had my share of performance cars including 5 mustangs, 69 Firebird, 1999 XK8 convertible, and a V12 750IL. This years Mustang by far is the best vehicle I have owned, I test drove the 2015 Camaro and the visibility was terrible.
People will always argue and disagree about one or the other. Looking at the sales of March and Mustang outsold the Camero and Challanger combined.
Dave
Not sure what's unimpressive? Looks pretty much like I expected. Tit-for-tat one-upsmanship.
Camaro V8 makes a little more power next year, two years later the Mustang will make a little more. Looks like GM focused on the V6 instead of the cylinder.
"Pony Wars" ain't new.....HOWEVER...the Mustang still looks like a Mustang! Yes, the '15 carries on the Marque.....the Cameo[SP] looks like sheet.....decorate it with ??? still look like sheet...
EVERY Mustang I see looks different!
Now....put enough money in a turd...it's still fast.....but....
The new Camaro is a dud IMO. It does not look a whole lot different from the previous models (if at all).
This one of the main reasons I did not purchase a GM Vehicle when I purchased my 350Z.
GM simply overuses and over extends the production run of their products until it won't sell anymore. It's far to generic with its productions and far too cheap.
I remember in 05 or 06 looking at the new body style Vette. I also looked at the CTS and a few other GM Vehicles wanting to buy American.
I remember the CTS had 2 toned interiors. I felt GM did this as a cost saving measure.. If you switched the interior color from black to let's say a tan.. They would only change the color of the glove box and few other things.. The rest of the interior stayed black.. It looked like crap and generic and cheap.
I also seem to remember feeling that a lot of the interior of the CTS was similar to the Chevy Malibu or something.. They simply over used production parts trying too make one design span too many different vehicles.
Chevy Motto seems to be over use and over produce.. All though I will admit I'm not thrilled that Ford is selling Mustangs to car rental centers.. This has always been bad for those models.. It does a lot of damage to the after market value of the cars, via flooding the market with them.
People complain that they don't like the 2015 Mustang because "it doesn't look like a Mustang" yet people also don't like the 2016 Camaro because "it looks too much like the old one", which was more popular than the S197 by the way.

The balls have hit the fan.....watch 2015 Mustang monthly sales drop 15-25%. I predict that the 2016 Camaro will bring the Chevy bowtie fanatics out in mass and restore Camaro as the monthly sales champ. The "Force" is again with the Camaro.
I am a Mustang fan but I have to agree with this. Chevy has won this round 16 Camaro vs 15 Mustang. The 16 Camaro is better than the 15 in every single way. Smaller, lower weight, more HP/better engine, 10x better interior. Wish I can say the same thing about the 15 Mustang.
When I bought my Mustang, I looked at the Camaro. I actually love both, go figure. But, I did not like the Camaro's hideous dash layout. It looked horrible and the control layout was just mindless. The Mustang just "fit". I took one look at the center stack and I could easily identify everything without having to actually read the little labels.
Fast forward to now, well they definitely cleaned-up the center stack. The SS gets magnetic ride control and the Corvette's rev matching with the manual. The Cadillac ATS has gotten rave reviews regarding its chassis dynamics, which should carry over to the Camaro. That sounds like a winning combination.
I'm still not a fan of 20" wheels, standard on the SS.
They are only going too produce a turbo charged 4 banger, a V6 and the SS.
I'm curious what the price point is going too be for the SS. If the SS is not priced competitively to the Mustang GT, I don't think it will do well. If the SS is not equipped competitively, when compared too the GT I don't think it will do well.
If you have $40k too spend on a vehicle and want a Camaro badly but can't get an SS for around $40k with similar options as the GT then why buy it? I personally would opt for the GT over SS every single time in that case.. Even if the SS is slightly faster if it is not with in $3000 or so of the GT I'd be buying the GT. Some people might spend another $10k for the SS.. But once you're in the $50k range for an SS you have too compete with the GT350.
After looking at pictures of the '16 Camaro I am underwhelmed. The big gaping grill in front just looks like a lot of boring plastic. GM is good at using stupid amounts of plastic (Avalanche). Frankly, I think the 5th gen looks better. GM also admits to making the rear seating area smaller due to the smaller platform. Industry standard for sports cars I guess. It's reported that interior quality has improved. If it didn't involve improving visibility then they missed the mark, again. Performance should be close to or better than the Ford with the V8, but it seems they are down quite a bit on HP with the base model compared to the Mustang. Puzzling. A 2.0 compared to Ford's 2.3 seems strange to me given their penchant for "cubic inches solves all" mentality.
