2001 SVT Cobra piston rings burned out? new engine? Hello everyone... this is my first post and i am hoping that someone will be able to help me out with some information concerning my 2001 Cobra...
i just bought my 01 Cobra in late July 2007 and i bought it with 33,000 miles on it, with one previous owner who i have known since he purchased the vehicle brand new. the previous owner had the oil changed and the battery replaced the week before i purchased the car. the miles that i have put on it since owning it just hit 3,000, so i am just now due for an oil change.
i had no problems with the car until about 6 weeks ago and all of a sudden i heard this rattling sound coming from the engine, almost like screws in a jar, when engaged in any gear, when i would step on the gas. also, there was a clicking sound in the engine while idling. i went out right after all of this started and i got about a mile from my house, came to a stop sign, and the car turned completely off. it had a really hard time restarting - this happpened 6 times in less than a mile back to my house. these problems started 24 hours after i had left my car in a parking lot over night and it was keyed - is there anything that could have been put in the gas tank that would have circulated throughout the engine and caused my engine to die???
i checked the oil and it was WAY low - my car holds 6 1/2 quarts of oil and i refilled 5 quarts - THIS IS NOT GOOD. but my question is, where the hell could the oil have gone??? there was no smoke indicating that i had been burning oil whatsoever.
i had not driven the car because i didnt want to make whatever problems it had worse, and i didnt want to be stranded if it decided not to restart. i took it to my regular mechanic 3 days ago and showed him that it would have trouble restarting after turning it off, and when i restarted it, there were billows of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust - obviously oil. he told me that oil could have gotten into the combustion chamber and was sitting on top of the pistons somehow, and that the piston rings might be burnt out... how does this happen in the first place? he then proceeded to tell me that if that was the case, that i would need a new engine. i went home from the shop and turned off my car, restarted it, and there was the billows of smoke coming out of the exhaust again, and for the first time ever, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine. what could that be???
i called a guy that works on mustangs/cobras at a ford dealership and told him all of the symptoms, and he said listening to everything that i told him, my motor is shot and i need a new one.
i own 2 other mustangs and i have never had a problem like this - oil just disappearing and all these other issues.
if anyone has any thoughts or ideas of what the possible problem might be, it would be much appreciated.
thank you! |
