Don't wash the top with a high pressure water hose. I would use soap and water and apply it with a sponge and then just run a regular water hose over the top to rinse it off. If you want to give the top some more protection and waterproofing just go to your local department store and pick up some canvas tent water proofer. I wouldn't use any armor all or any other kind of gloss on it either. If you park it in the garage make sure you leave the top up as often as possible so it won't develop creases.

If its vinyl, you have to condition the vinyl with a quality product. Go to your local auto upholstry shop and they should have a good product to condition the top with (I have found the auto stores have the lesser quality conditioners - the difference being the product doesn't last as long).

The conditioner will allow the vinyl to be more flexible and UV damage resistant.
