Default What's the better coolant brand?

Ok, since I figured out that my heater hoses were leaking coolant all over the place, I went ahead and installed all new hoses for my cooling system. When I bought coolant, the guy at NAPA said all coolant is the same so I made the idiotic mistake of buying cheap NAPA coolant and now my car runs about 5-10 degrees warmer than normal. What do you guys think is the best coolant for a Fox Mustang? Prestone?

Did you add a 50/50 dilution? Drain the entire system again and make sure all the air is out when filling. Antifreeze does not mix with water as it only surrounds the water molecule raising the boiling point. Straight antifreeze has a lower boiling point than water.

brands of coolant dont matter. your fine. if you live down south where temperature never falls below 32 degrees use only coolant, but most of the time youse antifreeze/coolant and water.

" surrounding the water molecule raising the boiling point". I think he means freezing point. =)

This may sound like a stupid question but, exactly how much coolant and water do you add to your system? Maybe I did screw up the mix. I live in El Paso where the summers are about 90-100 Degrees and the winters are at about 20-30 degrees. How much coolant should I add?

a 50/50 mix of water and coolant/antifreeze. it doesn't have to be exact.

False, the "coolant" aides in cooling but you need water in your system to keep it cool for the most part.

And a simple way to get close to a 50/50 mix is dump in a whole gallon of antifreeze and fill the rest with water.. .unless you use the redi-mix stuff like some privledged.

I do mean higher boiling point. Antifreeze lowers the freezing point and raises the boiling point. I live in florida and don't worry about freezing. I run 30% coolant as water is what transfers heat.

Heh, anitboil/freeze, you're prolly right but I would say coolant does boil. Otherwise you wouldn't get steam when you pulled the radiator cap after just getting done running the car.
