Default 2001 Mustang GT: Tail lights do not come on when brake pedal is pressed.

I noticed last night that my tail lights do not come on when I press on the brake pedal. The tail light bulbs will light when signaling and when my head lights are on. However, when my head lights are off and I press on the brake pedal, the tail lights will not light up. When the head lights are on and I press on the brake pedal, the tail lights will not brighten.

Any idea on where I should start to fix this problem? Thanks!

When you say check, is there something I should be looking for? In other words, is there a way to tell the brake switch is damaged? Or should I just replace the brake switch with a new one and see if that fixes things?

Thanks.

I would get some help to watch the brake lights (which incidently are different from the tailights) and operate the brake light switch under the brake pedal by hand. If they light then there may be an adjustment on the switch to take out the slack. If they do not light then chances are the switch is bad and will have to be replaced.
