Default 2005 Mustang V6 possible clutch problem

First, my car has 31000 miles on it and has a 5 speed manual transmission.

Second, Recently I noticed that when I go to accelerate in any gear, the RPM increase on the tach, and I can hear the engine respond to the increased throttle, but the speed is much slower to respond than it used to.

For example, in fourth gear if I increase the throttle to pass a car, the lag time between the RPM increasing and the vehicle actually responding by accelerating is much slower. Usually the RPM will increase to about 4k and then as the car starts to accelerate, the RPM begins to settle down to a normal range.

I am not smelling anything when that occurs, such as clutch pads burning. The clutch engages normally. It's just that the car no longer has the same rate of acceleration that it did.

I am thinking that it could be the clutch.

Anybody with any other thoughts?

Thanks!
-Craig

sounds like clutch to me. the smell would be like hot brakes after stopping fast, so if you smell that then i would definately say clutch. the only other thing i can think of and this would be remote, even though it happened to me, the clutch cable could be trying to sieze and slowly releasing the clutch. that sounds stupid but i bought my car with a "broken quadrant", i replaced it with the double hook aluminum one, then it seemed like every time i released the clutch, i was riding it out. turned out the cable was the cause of every problem. sorry so long, but that's my experience with this stuff
