Default Considering the advantages of a stroker kit for a S197 GT.

I've been looking into the advantages and disadvantages of using a stroker kit to increase Rachel's displacement without having to bore out the engine. I understand that stroker engines are forged and stronger for forced induction applications (such as the turbo charger I'm considering). I also read that stroker engines shouldn't be run at higher RPM's for an extended period of time, which is the source of power for a turbo charger.

Given what I've learned I'd be inclined to say that this probably won't work for my future plans but I'm just curious if any one here has run this type of power adder with a stroker engine and what their results have been.

Thanks again guys. And to you especially STLWAGON, since there is a 99.99% chance you will be the first to respond to this post.

You're good! If I could do over I'd have bought a new forged stroker short block.

I currently have a turbo on a stock motor. I'm considering changing to forged internal components to handle more boost in about a year or so. It is my understanding that you can still purchase forged components without changing the displacement or going with a stroker kit. I'm not totally clear on this issue yet. I'll monitor your post to see what advise comes out of it. I'll post some info if I find out anything more.

You're right Jay, it would be possible to purchase forged pistons and connecting rods alone for my intended purposes. In fact almost every aftermarket power adder company I've talked to has said that such upgrades would be neccesary for any boosted aplications. Supposedly they are the weakest link in the 4.6 3V Mod engine. I've also heard this engine can handle 8-14 PSI safely (depending on which company I was talking to).

I've been wanting to increase my displacement without having to boreout the engine and weaken it at the same time. And the stroker seems to be the magical solution to this problem. Granted it is an extremely expensive magical solution.
