Question Do Chips Really Work?

I have a 1998 Mustang GT Vert (5-speed) and am considering buying a chip (tuner) to increase the performance. I have been considering the Hypertech and the Jetchip, but am curious as to how much hp they really add. Also, are there any negatives involved in using one? Do they void the factory warranty? Thanks!

It all depends on the modifications you have performed, if it is stock then skip the chip and add some bolt ons like exhaust, MAF, TB and then add the chip to make the most out of them.

On a stock modular you can get probably 8-12 HP depending on the program.

Thanks for the reply. I have added a FM exhaust (American Thunder) and a K&N intake system so far. I am seriously considering changing the gears to 2.73's. I was thinking of the Hypertech tuner. What difference do you think adding this stuff would make?

do you mean 3.73 gears? best chips are done at the dyno by an experianced tuner.

Oops! I did mean 3.73 gears. You don't think a Stage III hypertech is a good idea?

I would check into an Autologic or DiabloSport chip. IMO Hypertech and JET are junk.
