Default 1995 Convertable Top Woes

My daughters' convertible top malfunctioned after the rear quarter glass was broken out by a friend who thought he was Starsky or Hutch ( trying to jump into her back seat with the top down and windows up). We had the glass replaced, but in a few days the top started raising unevenly and then stopped altogether. I took it to the same place that installed the glass. They said it needed the hydraulic pump ( on the same side ) replaced. I had them do that but the top still doesn't lift or retract properly. The side that didn't (passenger ) fail raises faster than the new side and "overshoots" the windshield frame and can only be latched by use of force from outside ( can't do it from inside ). I took it back to the same shop and they say that it is because the new pump & the old one won't operate at the same speed and that the top is old and has shrunk. I'm no expert, but I think what they are really telling me is that they don't know how to fix it. When i asked if putting another pump on the other side would solve the problem, of course the answer was "probably not". The top worked perfectly until the window incident. Does anyone have any suggestions??
Sorry so long winded,
Frustrated Dad

I'm no expert on this since I just recently bought a Stang Convertible, but sounds to me like maybe when your daughters friend broke the rear window they may have also bent the convertible top framing and that may be why the top isn't working correctly and overshooting the windshield. Just a suggestion, I hope it helps a little bit. It might be worth looking into thought.
