Question Upgrade or Replace

So I just put together a shopping list for my engine which come out to be around 4700 shipped which includes work on the headers, intake, RRA's, forged internals, stage 3 clutch, fly wheel and a few other things. My friends mom is a mechanic so I figure I can get the stuff installed for about 1000 or so. This brings me up to about 5700, not 100% on the numbers, I'll check when I get home. Is it worth it to get all this done or would it be better just to buy the engine already built and do a swap. I only got about 14000 on my engine and by the time I get all this it will be up to 2300 or so. What do you think ?

are you talking about a complete rebuild?? why would you want to do that? what are your plans after this? i dont see why you would need to do the forged internals...

i would not be doing this myself, This is my daily driver. the mods would get me up to 260 horses if I was stock when I did it and with my current mods should be closer to 280. Why would I do an engine rebuild? because I want to get a turbo at some point in time and if I need to get it taken out for them to put the cam, headers, and intake on I might as well get the forged internalls and kill two birds with one stone. That way next summer when I save up for a turbo I won't have to worry about upgrading to forged internals and I know I'll be able to handle the boost. Just trying to look at all my options and find out what is best before I make a rash decission to go drop some large amount of money on the wronge thing.

a stock motor can handel turbo very well.. you can run over 12psi you just have to tune it so you dont get detanation, thats what you have to worry about not the boost. just make sure your getting enough fuel in with all that air..
i would just get the turbo instead of all the internals..

12psi turbo boost is a little too much for a stock motor. I blew head gaskets with 8psi. At least a good set of head gaskets and ARP bolts are in order

I think you have a good plan. With a turbo you will be rebuilding a stock motor sooner than you think. It starts out 8psi, WOW that was fun! let's try 10psi, COOL! What about 12psi, CRAP there goes the stock engine!

Myself I would rather build the engine or in your case a friend that knows what they are doing. That way you know what has actually gone into the thing.

Are we talking about a 6 or 8?

X1lightning, I am going to have to go with Justnlx. Runing 12 psi on a stock engine is not something you want to do. The forged internals are only 1100 out of the whole cost and the rest will bump me up to around 280 horses which will be a great deal of help until I get the turbo. Also I called and talked to several people that make kits and they all suggest forged internals. Even if they are not a must I would much rather be safe then sorry. And I have V6, Thanks for all the feed back!

With 14000/23000 Miles on the engine you don't really need to rebuild in order to bolt on a turbo. Get bolts and head gaskets like Justin suggested and stick to 6-8 PSI of boost. If you REALLY want a new engine, get a crate 03 cobra engine from MPS.
