Default 2003 ford ranger rear end question

I have a 2003 mustang that gets about 13 to 15 MPG the result of all the bolt ons and a tune. Well im getting a 03 ford ranger and was looking at changing the rear gears from a 3.73 to something like a 3.27 to save more on gas. Does any one know anything about this. Will it hurt the tranny. Its a standard. What size is the rear end in these. Thanks for the info if any one can help.

You really don't want to install used gears in any car.
The wear patterns are already determined and chances are you are going to get gear noise which will drive you nuts.

Now if you are talking about swapping the entire rear end intact, that is a different story.

Well I was thinking along the lines of new gears. I just found out that its a 7.5 rear end and that it has 3.73s. So the ford dealer recommended that I put 3.55s but not any lower because then you would start getting into the transmission problem and stuff. So I am wondering if anyone has made the swap or done such a thing. Thanks for the heads up on the used gears I did not know that.
