I am sure this has been discussed before, but with technology contently changing I felt that reading old threads was pointless.

So what do you guys think is the best radar detector out. I plan on driving through a few states soon and I don't speed to much over but some times going with the flow of traffic is speeding slightly over and sense my car STANDS out allot I dont want to be the guy made example of.

cobra is very reliable and acurate. also prices arent too bad

I have a cobra detector also, they work good, The best I think are the escort or passport forget the company that makes them. They are expensive but are top notch. Just don't depend on any of them, with the instant on radar guns they will get you. My cobra will pick them up from a long ways off, but they have to be sitting there with them on. The lasers now to they can pick out a single car. I was going to work and metro was pulling people over my detector never made a sound, glad I know where they hang out.

All these are excellent units:

Valentine V1
Bel RX65
Escort/Passport 8500 (9500 if they got the bugs worked out).

With radar detectors you get what you pay for.

i have an escort passport 8500 (the red one) it works beautifully and you can now get them for around $250 online. mine works perfectly and i dont understand why they would come out with the 9500 (almost $200 more expensive) if the 8500 works really well. as fas as colors go, blue LED's seem to cost more so the blue screen ones usually run $50 more expensive.

That's my unit of choice although I also have a Bel RX65 for my family cars.
The arrows make a huge difference.

As for the 9500, it's a gadget box with GPS etc...
The Escort 8500 is a fine unit, no need to go for the 9500 if you decide to buy Escort.

I've owned radar detectors since the Fuzz Busters of the 1970's and the original Escort and one thing I have learned is that for the most part, you get what you pay for.

I don't get any falses on the V-1. I used to have a Whistler and that thing cried wolf all the time.
