AEM has just come out with a stand alone, plug & play programmable engine management system for EEC-IV Fox chasis Mustangs! Yeehaw! Most people know these guys from the import scene and recognize the name. If they can get a super high-performance Hondas, Supras and the like to run with twin turbos and so many sensors it would make your head spin, I don't think they would have any problems with a basic V8 with some bolt-ons. Even if you have a twin-turbo Mustang with every sensor known to man, this system can manage it.
My 92 has quite a few things modified on it, so I thought, why not? Well, without any changes other than the computer, we got 30HP more to the tires! It enables you to perform onboard datalogging, so if you have no idea what you're looking at, this doesn't apply to you. The part # is 30-1400 and will fit 1984-93 Mustangs. There's a part # for 94-95 EEC-IV Mustangs, too. There will be a computer for the EEC-V guys soon! It has so many functions it could make your head spin. It's got a 16/32 hybrid high-speed processor, base maps, nitrous, boost and knock control and so many other features.
I am sure many of us who "tweak" on our Mustangs so far it's hard to consider all the modifications we have done without taking it to a dyno-tuner to "burn" a chip to maximize the parts we have installed. Well with this bad boy, no chip is required. All you need is a laptop and knowledge of the information you will be looking at and custom tuning it for your vehicle. If you are a "tuner" by trade then this applies to you guys the most!
This is still young, so more tuning on my end is necessary... there will be an article in the June, possibly July issue of 5.0 Mustang on this, so watch out for it. I had some issues with my charging system, so I need to fix that before we can really get down to business. I plan on a return trip to AEM within this month.
I will post more information we I get it to keep everyone informed.
This computer is a sign of the future and tuning capabilities for many different types of racing and performance enthusiasm....
Just the tip of the iceberg... Stay tuned for the whole story. Check it out in 5.0 Mustang first as Tom Wilson is putting it together as we speak, so I'm sure he'll answer a few questions you guys might have.
I am going to sit in on some seminars later to get educated on a few things before I attempt to answer questions from everyone...
