Default Turning over an engine Manually

Hello,

I pulled out my engine and I have to turn my engine over. Can I use the starter to do this?

You can without any consequences. Once the plugs are out, it will spin easily by hand.

Should be fine as long as you've got oil up top.

It won't turn over after the mains have been torqued? You need to take the mains back off because something is binding somewhere. Do not turn it over with the starter, whatever it is that's binding up could get seriously damaged if you force it with the starter.

I had opened the oil pan and loosened the mains, I was able to turn it over several times. I re-torqued it and sealed it so I know theres nothing crammed in there. could it be that since all my seals and bearings are new that it is so tight?

Default turning engine

As the other person said. You should be able to turn the engine over by turning the crank with a socket and bar after plugs are out. If you cannot you have a problem somewhere and you will have to take it apart and start over. It is worth the time to take apart than to have to buy new and take apart anyway.good luck.

Yeah, definately don't force it with the starter, if it won't turn by hand, tear it back down and see what is causing it to bind or else you could get into having to spend major money to fix whatever breaks.

Can you not turn it either way? Clockwise or counter?
