Default Fuel Sending Unit

I need to replace a fuel sending unit and found one at a junkyard with probably 3-5 gallons of gas in the tank. Can I take the sending unit out without draining all of the gas or do I need to drain all of it out?

Thanks

You don't need to remove all of the gas from the tank if its the car at the junk yard. If it was my car, I'd drain the whole tank first because I have to pay $4.19 a gallon for premium and I wouldn't want to spill any!
