Unhappy 1988 Mustang GT Electrical Issues

I drove my car for 30 min parked the car for 2 1/2 hrs came back and my car will not start. When I turn the ignition over nothing happens, so I thought I left my lights on or door ajar. I tried to jump the car and again no light or power when i turn the ignition. I purchased new starter solenoid, charged battery, and check all fuses and I still have no power. If someone out there had an issue like this or have a solutions please share it with me. Thanks!

I have no power to anything. I so quick to think it was the battery. I recently replaced the ignition switch purchased from Autozone. I'm completely stumped.

[quote=Foxbodycrazy;1045422]. I recently replaced the ignition switch purchased from Autozone.

there's your problem. autozone electronics don't last very long try napa
also check you battery cables and grounding straps you should have at least 12 volts at the starter solenoid with the key off

My fusible links look ok. When I checked my ignition switch it was melted around the plastic harness, also there was a wire on the harness that was greenish around the wire. Attach is a picture.
I recently ordered another ignition switch and connector from Napa. Is there a way to check the old ignition switch?

Thanks!

You could ohm the switch, but i would not waste the time.Sounds like maybe the switch shorted or a wire in the ign. system shorted.

Do you think replacing these items my car will start? Are there other fusible links then the ones under the hood attached to the starter solenoid? I really do appreciate the input from everyone the advice has been very informative.

Thanks!

The fusible links at the selinoid supply elec. to the car, check all of them. With proper elec. going to the car and the ign.switch and wiring being repaired,it should start.

I replaced the ignition switch and plastic connector and my car has no power. I checked all the fusiblelinks for continuity and they checked out find. The battery currently has 11.96 volts, i'm completely have no idea what to look for. Are there any relays I could replace that you know of?

Stoopid question, but have you checked the batery cables themselves? Maybe one of the cables is crap or came disconnected or something.

The car is basically dead right now right? Nothing will come on at all, no dome light, no accesories or anything?

Is it a auto or stick? if a stick, maybe try pushstarting, if auto, maybe try taking a good heave wire like 4 gauge or something, and taking a straight lead from the battery to the starter selanoid and see if it kicks over.

My ignition switch went, and melted a helleva lot worse than that, and I replaced it with a new one, so I wouldn't think that the little melting you have on yours would effect the connection of the new one you put in.
