Default How to Identify an Engine Block?

I have an 351W sitting out in my backyard. Lately, I've been wondering what year it was cast in, and if it is anything special. What numbers do I need to look at, and what exactly is it that will tell me what it is? I already copied this down off the block:

D9AE-6015-ED-17-What does it mean?

Please give me some feedback!!!

Your new engine is a 1979 or later block based on the "D9" casting number. This is good. You already have hardened valve seats and stainless valves so you can run unleaded gas. I found it here http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/38...-351-swap.html
