Default EEC newbie

I just got a used eec tuner.. anything I should be aware of or know before I hook it up? Does the software that comes with the eec tuner have revised parameters already built in? the main things I want to do is take out the shift and high speed retards and change fan setpoints.

First, remember to clean the contacts on the EEC aux port, bad connection between the EEC and Tuner can give you problems.

The software is NOT preprogramed, you have to create your 1st mod file.
First you need to READ FORD ROM, then parse it. At this time you will be able to see the EEC stock programming in text mode (not binary)

Save the file as STOCK.eec, save a few copies of it.

Heres something you can use:

---- COPY EVERYTHING UNDER THIS LINE ----------
---- Then paste into the EECTUner SW, and download calibration -----

SPARK ALTITUDE and BASE tables:
This is LOAD VS RPM advance in Deg BTDc

The ALTITUDE table is used on locations high above sea level, the stock ALT table uses MORE ADVANCE than BASE.
BASE Table is the one thats mostly used.

Moving the values ADVANCES spark timing depending on LOAD=Volumetric efficiency, and RPM.

By optimizing timing advance, you increase HP.

BORERLINE DET is the MAX advance that your engine can take without DETONATING (ping).

Robert,

I am thinking about buying a Shiftmaster EEC tuner but was curious as to how it attaches to the computer. I have added MAF (Ford Motorsport) and the stack up with 60 pin connector & overlay harness is getting somewhat long and I really don;t have much more room.

Thanks,

The tuner attaches to the stock PCM on the auxiliary port.
The install is easy, remove the passenger sidekick panel, the PCM, open it up, clean the connections and install the 9pin connector somewhere under the glove box.
