I have 2 borg warner 5 speed trannys. Both came out of 84-86 300zx turbo v6's. The only markings on them are a serial number and an "R1" on the gearbox and tailshaft. It's the same case as the t-5 but the bellhousing is completly different. I've found a bellhousing to fit it and bolt up to my 5.0 but i have no idea what the gear ratiosare , the size of the output shaft and if it will hold up to the torque of my 5.0.

Give me the serials, might be able to find differences.

One thing to check for is the VSS location, could be on the tail or case.
If its on the tail, it is an analog VSS such as in 5.0s.
If its on the case, it is an electronic VSS and the signal is not compatible with your speedo. Will need a signal converter.

The tails could be shorter or longer (different ouputshaft)

Gear ratios are not much of a problem, most of the time the difference is not that big and you can always install a different rear end gear.

The output shaft in for the 5.0 is 28 spline, just count the splines.

Tranny mount locations might also be different so its possible you need to custom make or modify your current mount or xmember location.

Found some info, but to make it short...IT WONT WORK.


BTW, I've compared the front input shafts, and I don't see any way to mate this with a Ford V8. The input shaft is a different length, has a different pilot diameter, and a different number of splines for the clutch. In other words, nothing will transfer between the two. In addition, you would also need to buy a new V8 bellhousing, so I wouldn't even try.

thanks for the tech info raptor, i'll take it into consideration. however, i'm working on a limited budget and am looking for t-5 but haven't had much luck.
