Default gas treatment

So i went to Walmart to the car section and I saw this gas treatment made by NOS it claims to raise the octane in your gas a few points. I always fill up with Sunoco 94 cuase its the highest octane. While I was shopping this guy tells my I should try Xleene (zyleene) not sure of the spelling....anyway its use is a paint thinner. He said he used it on his car and he really noticed a difference. Anyway my question is what can I use and does it work?

A paint thinner? um no. In that theory you could add Everclear to your tank. Great Booster, its like 130 proof so you get pretty drunk, but its expensive. The best FI cleaner and octane booster is Redline FI cleaner, it works great, and it feels 5 HP lighter, doesnt add HP just "re-installs" the HP you once had.

DONT USE ANY GAS TREATMENT. IT IS A WASTE OF $$$. Believe me, I have tried them all. It is a waste of money. It does NOTHING for your car at all. I use 93 at the pumps all the time. It works the best. I get better gas milage, the car runs smooth, and I get more power. Remember the octane rating 87 just means it fires quicker. 93 means it's harder to fire eliminating the "ping" some cars hear. 107 octane is a joke. unless your car has a REALLY bad knocking problem, your just wasting your money.

I beg to differ, even the best octane will not clean injectors. That is where most of the power from gas treatments come from... not octane boost.

Any motor with 11.1 comp and lower doesn't need more than 91 octane to run great so more octane is a waist of money.
For the ones who said it does make a difference then I would start by checking the tune up and the one other over looked thing the O2 sensors
An engine needs only so much octane to run good so adding more is a waist and probably you run slower at the track with higher octane but remember if you ping on 91-94 octane look at timing, tune up,O2 sensors, coolant(running hot).

Don't take my word for it try it at the track you'll see that you'll run slower with 100 octane than 91.
Unless you have more than 11.1 comp
Go see on my site I built a 351 for a pantera and it made 564hp and 474 # of torque on 91 octane. Not a stroker either.

I run 12's on 87 octane and actually slow down a little if I run 93. There's no need to run that much on a stock compression 5.0.

The best injector cleaner I've found so far is from the Justice Brother's. We use it at our shop and I use it every third oil change. They make what's called an Emissions System service where you put one can of cleaner into the fuel tank, one goes into a vacuum hose on the intake, and one goes in with the oil. I was sceptical about it until I saw it in action. When our shop was making the decision on whether to get it or not, the service manager said it's up to the techs. The rep. from JB came and we ran a kit through every one of the tech's cars and through both of the service advisor's cars. Every single one of us noticed that our cars felt a little stronger and that we picked up a couple mpg as well. That night, I took my car to the track and in the same weather conditions as the week before, I ran 2/10ths quicker! I'm not a big fan of additives, but this stuff really does work and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I ran 12.70's w/ 93 then put some 104 in and the car ran 12.50's..This was on the bottle on the same day

Sup. Damn, got some fools battling it out on this post! NOS's stuff is excellent & 104 is excellent! I've talked to a few stanger friends and turbo ricer friends that detonate every now & then, including me, and they all say they like 104 in the black bottle & NOS octane boost in the black box (racing formula) to eliminate any knocking. I run a 16 degree advance & if i don't use octane booster my engine sounds like a tin can full of marbles in soccer match! Sup fools? BLING BLING!

I was talking about 104 gas not the octane booster

bottom line. each engine is different and each engine likes different things. thats where you have to experiment with different things.
