Unless you already HAVE an absolutely primo 350 already built and paid for,WHYYYYYY do this.

I've seen Mustangs done with big and small block Chevys, but in each case they were boneyard drop-ins.They don't seem to fit that well especially at the firewall(distributor interference) and the motor mounts make for some interesting McGyvering to make the thing sit level.

If you don't already have the Chev motor,do yourself a favor and build a Ford. It'll probably be easier.

You'll have to find someone REALLY "old-school" for this.

But it CAN be done right.

In the early 80s, when drag-racers were snapping up fox-body Mustangs for their light weight instead of performance (puh-leaze, the 1979-1982 Mustangs only outran the Mustang II by .2 seconds in the 1/4) a number of them went to Chevy Small-blocks for power.

Your best bet would be to find someone who's done that before.

Also, a Powerglide or a manual-tranny would be easiest to install in such a swap, as they're easily adapted to more situations than other Chevy trannies, and MUCH easier to adapt than most of Ford's.

Of course, a good Lentech AOD would work, they do them with special bellhousings to put behind small-block Chevys, I ordered one from them for a side-project of mine.

do yourself a favor and sell the 350 buy you a real motor.

And youll do that with a hundred dollar car and an engine you have laying around Dont get me wrong ....I love the small block ford ...and the stangs ......Trust me ...a 350 is a real motor ...If it was not a formiddable opponent , then you would not have chosen a big block to compete ("I'll buy a crapmaro and put a 351C in it" ) . Tell me that this guy is not building a " cheap street car " ????????? I thought so

the problem is the motor mount location on the SBC is futher back on the block than a 302, pushing the front of the engine closer to the radiator, plus the slope of the oil pan is longer and will most likely have issues with the K Memebr. The tranny will need to be replaced with a GM tranny due to the bellhousing bolt pattern being different, and sine GM trannys have different mounting points and the engine further foreward in the chassis, the tranny mount and tranny crossmember most likely will need to be moved. you will then need a custom driveshaft and a custom set of headers to make it work. sounds cheap in the beginning, but is you look at everything, I would get a wrecking yard 302 and c4.....

I have a BBf race car friend, i was refering to a 351C in my garage, I would buy a crapmaro and put it in and race him heads up the offer still stands. using parts I have laying around left over from when I ran 351c's JUst to prove a point. The 351C was twice the motor that a 350 is or was. It was essentially a small block with big block heads
read your history , see bob glidden era. No need to argue this it's been done. have a great day.
