Car hard starting

My 89 5.0 has a hard time starting some times. If it does not start first try it has to turn over several times and when it does start it idles way up and runs poor

Complete tune up probably needed:

Fuel and air filters, dist cap and rotor, pro. injector cleanup, clean TB and IAC, check TPS voltage.

Give us a bit more info, is it modified? last tuneup? other symptoms?

mine did not want to stat when cold. when it did start you had to give it gas to keep it running. It ended up being low fuel pressure. Don/t know if it is the sameproblem you are having but it may be worth a shot

Definitely do a tune up if you havn't done so in a while. It might be a bad fuel pump. I used to have a 95 Lightning that had the same hard start problem in the morning and it turned out to be a bad check valve ball in one of the fuel pumps. The ball wouldn't seat properly when the truck was turned off. And all the fuel pressure would leak down overnight and would cause a hard to start problem in the morning.
If you don't want to do a full tune up and want to do a quick check. Cycle your ignition key 3 times on and off without starting the car. Make sure you can hear the fuel pump buzz on. Then go ahead and start it. If it starts right up then you might know your problem. Hope this helps
