Default Tail Light for 1986 Mustang

Why is it so difficult to locate a rear tail light lens for a 1986 Mustang V6? Are these things rare or something?

Rare? Far from it. I see them on eBay all the time. Granted, you're talking about a 17+ year old part here. Don't expect them all to be in NOS condition.

I4, V6, V8, they all use the same tallights (The SVO had pinstripes is the only difference). If you're not picky about the center bar being the correct color for '85/'86 ('83/'84 was Black, '85/'86 was Dark Charcoal), any '83-'86 taillight will suffice.

And ANY '83-'93 taillight housing will fit the taillight panel with no modifications. Same goes for lense-to-housing interchangeability.

Hey, thanks! That's some helpful info. I have been searching the net all morning. Now, do you have any idea where I might find an 83-86 because most of what I have seen is 87 and up.

'87-'93 LX taillights are more common, so yes, you have to weed through all the ads to find '83-'86. But here's one:

eBay is NOT the only place you can find and buy them. Check classified ads on message boards, including this one, often.

Heck, there's even a place in NC that parts out Mustangs (although it's usually '87-'93 stuff): http://home.directus.net/redneck/

I have a set that I would sell for the right price. The only mars on them is from rubbing together in their orignal Ford box, which is minimal. I would polish them before selling. They are 85-86 (Charcoal Gray) Bought them a few years ago from a Ford dealer in FLA. Was going to put them on my 93 but I was able to find a set of 93 Cobras ($260 a side) at a dealer in Canada last year. New lenses on a car at a show really make the car stand out. I use LX's unless I'm going to a show or to a cruise night.
Shoot me an e-mail at flyboy8641e@webtv.net and make me a reasonalbe offer and I'll make them yours.

On Ebay blueovalindustries sells new original Ford taillights, I got a set for my 86 GT and they look great. They are for the Cobra like flyboy was talking about with charcole stripes across them & look great on the car! Best of all they are only $159.00 for both. Comes with sealer & new clips. You can get a used set for around $50, but I would recomend the cobra lenses if you got the extra coin. Just search the seller on ebay, you will like I promise!
