Default A/C options for 1988 2.3

Hello to all,

The news from my service writer was not good regarding the AC on my '88 LX 2.3. Apparently, the compressor doesn't work and there is a hole in the accumulator. Additionally, the system is the "old" one, and the kit to change over to the "new" system was quoted at $1200. I was told that it could run as much as $2,000 to get the AC working.

I would greatly appreciate knowing of any options, work-arounds, et cetera that I could follow up on. This car is a keeper and I want everything on it to work.

Thanks in advance,

Charles

Go to the wreakers and start looking for the parts you need. Getting the ac swapped to the new system is no big deal. All they do is chage a couple of fitting and replace the refrigerant

Aloha.. I would not use wrecking yard parts for a AC system. You will need a compressor, orifice tube and a accumalator.and R134 high and low side service ports. And all other parts will need to be flushed of all old oil and contaminents. Then change all parts adding the right amount of oil to all parts and vaccum system for 30 minutes then recgarge system with R134 and hope that there are no other leaks in your system. Aloha

Get your A/C system from a salvage yard. Here in Iowa they usually check to see if the equipment works before they sell it to you.

Another option is knocking your front window out. lol
