Default Great Do it yourself Gear Swap article

I recently completed a gear swap from 3.27's to 4.10's in my 8.8 inch rear differential. I did a lot of research before undertaking this task, and knew what I was getting into, but there's no doubt in my mind that doing a gear swap sucks your very soul out if you're working by yourself in your own garage with some jackstands instead of a car lift. The bright side is that it's totally worth the frustration, time, $$$, and energy. Also, your soul will come back to you when the gears are broken in and you can't keep your foot out of the gas...plus, you get to say that you did it yourself.

I used this tech article as a guide and found it extremely useful. I ran a search and haven't found it on this forum, so I'll post it here. I hope it encourages others to pick up a wrench, and give it a shot.

Default Magnetic base dial indicator help

I almost forgot...the hardest part for me (Other than overly crushing crush sleeves) was figuring out how to use a borrowed magnetic base dial indicator to properly measure the backlash. I'm not a rock-head, but I'm no astrophysicist either...give me a break huh?
I googled the manufacturer of the instrument and was able to download a PDF instruction manual to assemble it, and then I found some videos on Youtube to see how to measure the backlash.
Whatever you do, make sure you can operate that thing properly, or you're gonna have problems.
Hope this helps someone...

Tip: Buying more than one crush sleeve will save a drive to the parts store.
