Default How to tell an engine size

New to this , how can I tell a 255 V8 from a 302/ 5 liter , we picked up what we think is a 5 liter but before we get too far how can I make sure that it is a 5 liter .. we cant trust the car that it came out of .. Thanks Des

You really cant. Unless it says it on the engine. All Ford small blocks are about the same. It breaks down to crank and stroke.

You can tell the difference between a 302 and 351W, it's in the cylinder heads.

If you've seen a 289, expect the same with a 255,

Decode the part number on the block.

Do a P&G test.

Measure the bore and stroke.

the intake ports on a 255 are round
