Default Hp Ratings
I am looking to retro fit a newer ford engine in my 66 coupe. Wondering if their were any opinions out there on how to pick an engine with the max hp. Should I use 87-93 HO 5.0 or save a little more and go for DOHC Cobra? Really hoping to find a web site that might compare the last fifteen years of Horsepower numbers? Any suggestions?

You can get a 96 cobra motor for less than 3k from stangparts.com Not sure how many miles it has on it, i dont think its too much.. 305hp right there.

A 302 would be an easier swap, though. I've seen GT-40 long blocks for sale in a few magazines. I think they make 275 hp.

How much trouble will it be to slide in a T-5 tranny as well?

The T-5 is a common swap. I'm sure someone makes a kit or something to do that. Some of the guys in the classic tech area would probably know.

You can get the GT-40 302 from ford racing for about $3,195, and that puts out 345 horses straight from the crate.
