Question mannually advancing timing on V6

hey everyone,

My name is mike, i havean 02 V6. I have seen some talk about mannually advancing the timiing vs getting a chip. I think that mannually adjusting the timing seems more cost effective. I have seen most posting on this topic related to 5.0 mustangs and advancing the timing per the distributor, ok i can do that on my 59 ford, but how would i do that on my Mustang without having to get a chip. from what i understand, there is loosening one of the pulleys and advancing it a degree or two at a time....

Basically, i would like to know is this possible, and if so what are the proceedures for this adjustment? risks adverse effects involved? I don't mind running 92 octane to prevent detonation, i would just like to tune what i have now.

thanks for any help

mike
