Default Project: Mighty Mav.

Hey all, been a while since i asked a question.. my friend has a 74 Maverick... wants to do it up right.. a 302 will fit in place of the 250 6 thats in it now.. so whuts to stop from going with a 347 and swapping it over to a t5...
1) will the T5 hold the power of a 347?
2.) Would it be worth it to build the 6? I mean 7 mains.. beefy
3.) 8.8 or 9"?

Its going to be a DD, but wants to shut down the local rice.. so i told her to pull 4 spark plugs as is.. just want all feedback.. ive been cruising the mav sites.. just for info.. but i need some real blue oval people.

The T5 should handle it depending how you abuse it.
As for the rear I would go with the 9-inch. Doesn't it have a 7.5 that resembles a 9 right now?
Oh, and I would only consider a V8 under the bonnet.

I love Mavericks!

I wouldn’t waste your time on the inline 6. It would take to much fab. to make it have any kind of power and cost $$$$$. I would go the V8. Be prepared to do some cussing when it's time to change spark plugs. The Maverick has one of the tightest engine bays there is.

The Maverick rear axle is pretty narrow. If you can find an 8.8 from a Ranger it would fit pretty good and you would have 5 lug axles. Then all you would need are 8cyl Granada front spindles, rotors and calipers. Or narrow a 9” rear to fit

The 6-cyl rear axle isn't as strong as a 7.5. The V8 Mavericks came with an 8" ring gear that resembles the 9" with its removable third member

excellent.. i figured thats about the answer i would get.. and yeah.. its what i was wanting as well.. I just wasnt sure on the power capabilities of the T5.. I remember someone .. i think Twist, taking out an input shaft.
anyway, its gonna be a project car so we got time to think..

Oh, and Tony... must i reiterate the fact that Vortex Performance has the worlds first and only Turbo 2.8 Thirdgen F-body in the world? power can be made there.. but im more of an instant gratification on something im not gonna get to drive.

That's cool and all, but that is not the inline six that comes in the Maverick. The Mavericks six would take some doing to get horsies out of her.

Unless you drop in a 300 six from a truck or V6

The Maverick uses a modified Mustang platform. Most anything from the Mustang will bolt on -Including TCP's stuff.

Mav's are awsome. I've had two, one a '70 with a transplanted 300 I6, and a '72 I put a 351C into (my first car). These cars are cheap to build, light in weight, and just plain awsome looking with a Grabber hood and spoiler on them. In fact I've been thinking about getting one I see next to a barn I drive by often. It's pretty rough, but it's a '70 Grabber and every things there, just rusty. It's Grabber Yellow if I wanted go with the factory color, but I'd probably go Grabber Orange.
