Default 302 eec-v to eec-iv conversion questions

hello all,

great site!

i am planning on putting a late model explorer 302 into my project jeep yj and have a few questions about the eec to use. everyone i've talked to says to do a 88-93 mustang 302 conversion using a 88-93 mustang as the donor for the engine, ecu, harness, etc.

i however want to use a 2000 explorer motor instead. i can get a very low mile (under 5k) motor from the junkyard cheaper than the 88-93 mustang motor and have the benefit of already having GT40 heads and intake, etc. problem is i have been advised by everyone i;ve spoken too to stay away from this setup. "the conversion will be too hard. i've never heard of someone successfully doing it. etc."

my question is can i use the year 2000 motor with a 88-93 A9L? can the eec-v be converted to eec-iv? what sensors do i need to change, what about the electronic distributorless ignition system (EDIS)?

anybody have any details? maybe even with Ford part #'s?

all help is greatly appreciated.

p.s. the jeep will have to pass the sniff test as a 89 Jeep.

thanks,
nick

The explorer engine is IDENTICAL to any EEC IV 5.0, just need to install a distributor and a 88-93 harness complete with the ignition module, distributor, coil and EEC IV computer.

The explorer uses a crank possition sensor where the 5.0 distributor should be, just take it out and in goes the dist. You can even keep the explorer fuel rails (19 lb injectors) but will need to convert to the Mustang EGR setup, or adapt the Explorers (there were 2 different setups as far as i know).
