Default Hurst shifter

The short answer to that question is YES. But there are several similiar shifters out there. Steeda makes one, as well as, the pro5.0. If you need some links let me know.

Default Which shifter to buy? '92 GT w/T5

Back in the "old days" Hurst was about the only choice. Now we have Pro 5.0, Mac Racers Choice, Steeda, B&M Ripper.....
and Hurst

I was hoping to find a comparison already written up but, if it's there, I missed it.

So.......what the skinny? What's the favorite? Pros and cons ?

Also, there's umpteen used shifters on E-bay. This doesn't seem like the kind of part to wear out or break...should I take a chance on a used one? If there's any doubt, I'd just buy a new one, of course. But who doesn't love a bargain?

Any advice appreciated

Doug Dwyer

I just wanted to say I've been using a Hurst for years now and I have no complaints. It's a far cry better than the stock "bang your knuckles off the radio" shifter. Just be sure to set the stops correctly, and you can slam some gears.

I use the Steeda Tri-Ax and haven't looked back.. Set the stops at .020, lightweight handle, and bent to fit your grip a lot easier... its great.
About a write up, its always better to ask, you get more responses, plus they are up to date.. ideals change...

I use the Pro 5.0 and am very satisfied. I can bang as hard as I want all day knowing it is safe to do so.

Were not helping out are we, just confusing you! I think there all pretty good myself. If you can, try and drive someone else's car with a shifter and see for yourself how it feels, if at all possible.

Thanks everyone.

Confusing? Naw !

The important thing is that, so far, nobody has said "For gawd's sake, whatever you do, DON'T buy the so-and-such shifter. They're the worst." So, at least I know there's no particular brand to avoid.

Anything is sure to be a big improvement over stock.......

Thanks again

Doug just about any aftermarket brand is considered a major improvement over the stock shifter. It seems to me Pro Shifter is widely considered at the top with BBK Ripper and a few others like Hurst all in the same category. You really can't go wrong replacing that stock shifter, and your tranny will thank you for it

I got my car with the stock shifter cut down it wasn't that bad, but eventually I switch to the pro 5.0 power tower, its good I noticed after beating the piss out of it the first day it came loose a lil, but I tightened it up and its been good ever since!

Default Pro 5.0 vs Steeda Triax

Which would be better for a 2001 GT?

I'm partial to Steeda. Their parts are usually of better quality than other companies.

I havent tried the 5.0, but the Tri-ax is awesome, positive stops, short throw, and the handle is bent towards you for better feel.
