Default Steamed...

I had my MM subs welded in today. The welds look like crap. Some welds are in the wrong place, some aren't there at all and the ones that are there look like someone soldered them on with a flamethrower.

I also came to find out that the car wasn't supported by the wheels when they were installed but luckily I don't have any problems with my doors rubbing.

Obviously I can't take it back to the same shop to "fix" them. Has anyone had to have any welding undone and redone?

Its risky to have it "undone" as the frame is very thin metal.
The best route is to remove as much excess welding material using a rotary stone and then reweld in the proper spots.

Dont forget to repaint the area to avoid rust.

That shouldn't be too hard. I only have to move a few brackets and have a reinforcement plate welded at the bend in the sub. There are two pieces that reinforce the torque box area that are missing some required welds. Some of the other welds will have to be fixed because of gaps.

I wish I had a welder. I'd practice till I could weld down a nice rippling bead and then fix it myself. Hmmm... Maybe I'll take some welding classes.

I have a set of BBK subframe connectors for my SN95, what is the best way to "support the car by the wheels". I am guessing a jack stand under each A-arm and then two more under the rear axle.?. I want to bolt the subs on myself and then have them welded by a qualified shop.

I had some long planks and drove my car onto them. Had a friend do the job. I held wet towles around the rubber bushings holding the IRS sub assembly on. Then I realised that I was laying on the welding cord. Got a tingly sensation.lol

Best to carefully drive it onto properly supported blocks of the same height, or just go down to the best muffler shop in town to have it done. This is one of the jobs that needs to be done once.
I used BBK SFC's too.

Ask some of the people in your area where they did it.
