Default Effectiveness of New Shocks

I recently got a 1991 Mustang LX Hatchback, but you can really feel the bumps in the road. I'm guessing that the shocks are factory, so I was just wondering how much new shocks would help [ sorry for the n00b question =) ].

Big time help, when the shocks and struts go there is nothing controlling the action of the springs.

yea i had a Stock setup in my 92 GT it had over a 100,000 miles on it, i just upgraded to lakewood shocks allaround, and the Eibach pro kit, it is stiffer but alot more comfprtable, it actually improved the ride quality, and corners better,
