hey I am buying a chevy 305 engine and i was wondering if it would work with a ford transmission...its a 1977 mustang and its the same transmission as when it was first bought. Is there some sort of modifying i can do to make it fit?

none that i know of why dont you get a 302 for it. It just seams wrong to toss a chevy engine in any ford product.

Out of all the Chevy engines why on earth would you want to put in a 305? You would be better off with a Chevy V-6.

well the 305 is being sold for $150 and its really a good deal...but now my dad said that he knows someone who was selling a 302 so imma go ahead and get that if he is still selling it...any engine is better than the 2.3 4-cylinder engine that is in it now..

are you crazy?first off you wanna put a chevy engine in a ford,then you slam the 2.3?youd be better off building the 2.3 and turboing it!!call up summit racing,they have 2.3 turbo rebuild kits with forged pistons,rings,all seals and gaskets you need for about $430.if you were to buy the 302 to put in it,youd have to change too much stuff to make it work....springs,tranny,rear end,etc....with the 2.3,if you run a turbo,youll have to purchase a turbo manifold,ecu,turbo,or you can just buy a whole efi engine from a turbo car(svo mustang,merc capri gt,thunderbird t-coupe,ranger turbo,broncoII turbo,or cougar turbo).then hook up the ecu and wiring harness and BLAM,turbo 77 mustang!if you dont wanna go the turbo route,look up www.racerwalsh.com ,www.summitracing.com ,or www.esslingerengineering.com for the 2.3L n/a go fast goodies,or go to your local dirt track and ask around the guys running 2.3L how they built theirs.the only reason i suggested this is because it sounds like you may be on a tight budget.

Ok......well what all could I do to a 2.3l engine to make it sound good and make it have alot more hp other than a turbo, because i dont think my engine could handle a turbo.

rods and crank from 2.3 n/a and turbo are identicle,they can handle a rumored 450hp,with arp hardware and main cap straps,im sure that number goes way up.the block is the same too,the only difference beside the pistons(cast for n/a,forged for turbo) is the head...but just minor differences in combustion chamber design,and intake and exhaust ports.im not saying go all out on the 2.3L,just another option other than swapping in a v-8 and a host of other v-8 compatible parts.

Well I feel the same about the Chevy 305 as I do about the Mustang II of 74-78. They didn't make the Mustang between 74 and 78 ya know.

Yeah dude Chevy 305's belong in one place- all piled together in a giant vat, to be excorsized by a priest and then melted down so that more precious 5.0's and 351's can be made from it.

If you want to make a sweet 2.3 it can be done. I have seen a turbo 2.3 smear an identical model and year 5.0 before... plus, they do sound kinda sweet with some boost coming out the pipes. Kinda like a Honda that hasn't been neutered.

yea, but I don't it to sound like a piece of crap import...I want it to have a good ole rumble to it. What all can I get for it other than a turbo? because i dont want to have a turbo on it yet if at all.

who gives a crap if it sounds like a buzzbomb as long as it smokes the ricers?you could buy the 2.3T master rebuild kit and n2o the piss out of it!!!
