Question flywheel weight differences

I just bought a 1986 Gt with a 302, but the transmission and the flywheel were off of a 289. This was causing the motor to be unbalanced and making the gaskets leak from vibrations. I have a 302 flywheel and a 289 flywheel. If i take the weight off the 302 flywheel and put it on the 289 flywheel, will it be the balanced.

There is no removeable counterweight; it's cast as part of the flywheel. Only some aftermarket flywheels have a removeable and interchangeable counterweight.

Thank you for the information. I'm on the internet buying a flywheel that is the same size as a 289 flywheel but has the 50 oz. weight on it. That should work shouldn't it?

Yes, you need the 50 oz.

He might be talking about an auto tranny flywheel aka flexplate. I think some of those have counterweights.

Even if it's a flexplate, the counterweight is welded in place.
