66 Engine and HP

Is 450 hp alot for a 66 fastback? I know you cant stick larger than a 351 in there, and i want to find a car where i can wow people, without being a drag car etc.. just a very quick 66. am i looking at the wrong car for what i want or will that amount of hp do it?

You dont need a large stroker to get that power naturally aspirated:

You can go with a 347 stroker with some good heads (AFR), it will have the 450HP, will weight less than a 351 so that it also handles decently.
And place a TKO behind it.

You can fit a 351W into a 65-66. It requires a little more work than a 289/302, but it's really not that difficult.

TKO is a five speed manual transmission.

The stock hood won't fit with a 351 will it?

Yes, the stock hood will fit with the proper intake manifold and air cleaner combo. The biggest worry is getting it to fit between the shock towers because it's about 1 1/2 inches wider than a 289/302.

That’s very interesting………. I have my 66 which I haven’t worked on in some time (right now totally stripped and bare metal) it is a inline 6 but now am thinking a stroked 393 sleeper……..
