I was told that my car had aftermarket gears in it, some one told me I could mark the tire and drive shaft and spin the tire and count how many rotations the drive shaft makes and that would be what my rear gears would be, problem is I did this and it turned 1.7 times, what gives am I doing something wrong?

Did you turn the tire 180* or a full 360* rotation?

one full turn of the tire (360) also the tire turned but not freely, I thought I would just have to give it a spin and it would turn until the momentium left.

Did you lift the entire back end of the car or just one side?

yes both were off the ground

And BOTH tires were spinning?

I assume both were I was under the car counting the revolutions and my buddy was spinning the tire.

It should not be turning just 1.7 times. Something's not right. Go back out there and do it again.

Both tires off the ground. Transmission in neutral. Parking brake released. Turn the tire one full revolution. Count the number of driveshaft revolutions.
