There is an interesting link on the Ford Racing web site that states Ford's position on the effect of mods on new car warranties. Go to www.fordracing.com and then hit the button for "performance parts". On that page there is a section titled " Inside Ford Racing". There is a subheading about mods and warranty. It is well worth reading. The example given in the article is one of the first mods a lot of guys make - underdrive pulleys.

I saw that myself and in this weeks issue of Autoweek, there is another article about coverage as well. Basically both say the same thing: If you mod it and bring it in for service, coverage can be denied if the mod caused the failure.

I think this is a pre-emptive against everyone with 03/04 Cobras that have changed pulleys, ect.

Any idea how cat back exhaust systems are viewed by dealers? Emmisions not withstanding, do FlowMasters or the like get frowned upon by service departments?

I don't see exhaust systems being a problem but your best bet is to ask the service reps at a dealer first.

Speaking of which, I took my car in for the 10,000 mile oil/filter/rotation thing and found out that this one service rep (1 of about 10 at this dealer) owns an 00 and an 04 Mustang himself. I think I'll stick with this guy. I'm sure he's more mod-friendly than others.
