Which would give you more power if you spent the same amount of money, a base GT or a modded V6? I know modding the V6 would take more, but I'd learn something from it, so time's not an issue, just the price.
Thanks

depends on how much you "mod" it and what years. for example. a 96 gt vs a 2003 v6 with every bolt on imaginable, the v6 might have a prettty good shot. But only cause the horsepower for v6's is 190 for a 2003 and 96 gt's had only 215 if im not mistaken. So you have to take the years, mileage and all that stuff into comparison also. A new GT would smash a new v6 even with bolt ons. all depends man. give us more info.

If you were to go for 99+, then the V-6 isn't even a question for performance. The only way to give the 6er a chance is to do something like NoobAStang said. older GT verse 99+ very, very highly modded 6.

Not that highly modded will get you a GT.
You can save a lot of money just in insurance that you can spend in mods, gas savings add up, and the mods are getting more support.
So - it depends on what kind of challenge you're after.
Right now a 6 is 13,777 in Fayetteville. GTs are 24,000. 10,000 is a bridgeable difference. but if you're willing to spend 35,000 on a GT, then you'll beat a six, but your mileage will be in the gutter, and you'll be paying a LOT for insurance.
I've had a 1968 302 Mustang, a 390 1968 Cougar, and two 6ers. All o f'em were fun, if only because no one expected any performance at all out of them.
Anyone. now, can build a fast 5 liter or 4.6. That wasn't the case in the 80s. I like challenges. If you don't like experimentation - get the GT. Anyone can build on with enough cash. The 6 requires creativity.

Basic bolt ons include Cold air intakes, underdrive pullies, throttle bodies, headers, exhaust. top all that off with a performance chip and youre looking at about 190 hp to the wheels so 220 or so at the fly. These are the basics, you can get more advanced of course. New suspension comes in the form of lowering springs, shocks, struts, sway bars. Itll handle like a beast and roar like one too.
Not sure if any manuals out there modding v6's But the aftermarket support has definately been increasing so im sure theres a few out there

yea they can be bought pretty cheap with about 20k miles or so. Thats plenty new enough for me. havent ever owned a mustang with less than 70k miles on it before i started so. The price to begin with isnt even that much of an issue, just the insurance, gas mpg, blah blah blah.

On the insurance, do you need to tell your insurance company about mods, such as air filters? How about something like a supercharger? Also, which would get better gas mpg, a modded v6 or gt?

Yea, surprisingly alot of boltons INCREASE Miles to the gallon. Sounds weird to first timers. Cold air intakes usually promise 1-2 more MPG, along with underdrive pullies bring in another 1-2. Basically on the highway my 6 gets roughly 30 mpg if i drive under 70, but i never do so so much for that.

You don't necessarily have to buy a new GT, mine is a 2000, I bought it for 16'700.
Price of a 2000 v6?
Still a lot cheaper. Heck a new one is cheaper!

My insurance policy states that they will not cover a "heavily modified" car, but they don't define what "heavily modified" means. It gives some examples, like modifying a car for purposes of racing or competition. So, I guess my policy will stop covering my car when I start racing for money. Just hope that if you ever need to file a claim, your accident didn't happen at the track! :thumbsup
