I was underneath my car the other day and came across the scary conclusion that there is no way for me to check the fluid in the rear end. I don't know if maybe I just didn't see it or there wasn't one there. I know for sure it is not on the back of the rear end like most other cars. I was curious if anyone knows about this problem. If this is a problem how did you correct it, or at least check your rear end fluid.

There is a filler plug on the driver's side, facing the front. The level of oil should be just below the plug hole. Basically, you fill the chamber with oil until it starts to run out then put the plug back in.

If you have the type of rear axle that has the removable carrier, then the plug is on the back of the axle housing, facing the rear.

I hope this helps.

I too have a 68' Mustang Coupe and had the same problem--No way to service/check the fluid level in the rear end. At the time, I had a serious "whine" in the rear end. My solution--I got a new 3rd member and made sure the replacement had a plug.
